1Password 3 and IOS 9.0.2 incompatibility with OS X 9.10.5?

I suspect IOS 9.0.2 on the iPhone is not compatible with 1Password 3 on my iPhone 6. 1Password 3 keeps crashing. If I load the latest 1Password iPhone app to my iPhone it will not sync the info on the Macbook using 1Password 3 or the latest 1Password app on the iPhone 6.

Yesterday I bought online 1Password 5 for my Macbook Pro running OS X 10.9.5 and it is incompatible. Kind of frustrating since I now rely exclusively with 1Password for ALL my passwords.

  • Hi @CzarLeo4418,

Thanks for taking the time to write in. Yes, unfortunately 1Password 3 for iOS was retired nearly 3 years ago and as such cannot be updated for iOS 9 compatibility.

You can download 1Password 6 for iOS here:
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/1password-password-manager/id568903335?mt=8&uo=4&at=10l4Hf&pt=11798&ct=site

And you can find upgrade instructions here:
    https://support.1password.com/upgrade-ios/#1password-3-7-1-or-earlier
Alternatively you can sync with your Mac (more on that below)

Please do not remove 1Password 3 for iOS from your device until you are certain you've got all of your data within 1Password 6 for iOS. Once you remove the v3 app the data contained within is also removed and becomes unrecoverable.

1Password 5 for Mac requires OS X 10.10. As OS X 10.11 is now out, you are a full two major versions behind. It may be worth looking into upgrading. If that is not an option, you can run an older version of 1Password on your Mac:

I hope that helps. Should you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to ask.

Thanks Ben. Instructions where perfect and it works now. Two more questions. if I continue to use 1Password 3.8.22 on my Macbook Pro without updating to OS 10.11 can I still backup in the same fashion to the iPhone 6 if I make any changes in 1Password 3 on the MacBook. Pro? or can I upgrade to a later version of 1 Password that still runs using OS X 10.9.5?

  • @CzarLeo4418,

Glad to hear that has helped thus far! Yes, there is a newer version of 1Password for Mac that you can run, even if you are stuck on OS X 10.9. That would be version 4.4.3, which you can find here:
    https://agilebits.com/downloads#legacy_versions

You mentioned that you purchased 1Password 5 for Mac. If you purchased directly from us you should already be all set to use your license with 1Password 4 for Mac. If you purchased from the Mac App Store you may need to drop us an email to support+sales@agilebtis.com with both a link to this thread and a copy of your receipt from Apple and we can get you squared away.

    Thanks!

    Ben
