report website issue option doesn't always appear

The suspect website is ForexFactory.com homepage when one of my workers went to login. Google Chrome 45.0.2454.101 m (64-bit)
I checked firefox and the ability to report offending website is also not there for the same website. (4.4.2; FF 39.0.3
In chrome again, for discussions.agilebits.com, the option to report website is not here either.

I haven't restarted my computer in a while, but I have restarted the browsers several times, as well as removed and reinstalled the 1P browser extensions. Very annoying.

I was able to manually login by right-clicking on the forexfactory login and then copying the username/password info.

Lots of other sites also have the missing report website option. I find that very odd that the option is just not there :(

And also, your 'about 1Password' browser extension popup window should be set so that users can still

For example, I cannot memorize the exact version numbers and switch tabs or copy/paste because the about 1P popup window forces the focus on the popup window until it closes. Perhaps you could just print this in a .txt format instead and link to it so that I can open in notepad so that users can copy/paste browser/extension/OS versions.
There is no point in putting the version info in a form that cannot be readily copied. Slows/frustrates the entire process.

    Hello @4EverMaAT,

So I've looked at ForexFactory.com and something odd seems to be going on there but only with Chrome. I tried manually creating a Login item and it failed to open the 1Password Auto-Save window while it worked on Firefox. Moreover, the Login item created in Firefox would successfully fill in Firefox but show no indication of working at all in Chrome.

This is also the cause of the Report issue with XXXX. The menu option remains invisible until the user attempts to fill something on the page using either a Login, Credit Card or Identity item. After you've attempted to fill though the menu option should become visible. This is what I found using Firefox on the ForexFactory.com site but because 1Password is failing so badly with this exact same site in Chrome it isn't even registering that a fill attempt has taken place. I suspect, but do not know for certain, that if we can discover why the extension isn't offering to save that we will also find why it isn't offering the menu option too. It isn't limited to Windows either, Chrome for Mac also displays the same behaviour. So this is something we will need to investigate to understand why this site behaves differently between Chrome and other browsers.

So just to reiterate, under normal circumstances you should only see the Report issue with XXXX after attempting to fill. If you are still finding there are sites this happens to please do let us know as it might be an indicator of a more severe issue with that site.

Now, to address your other point about the About 1Password.... Now the following trick doesn't work in the main 1Password window but it does in the 1Password helper. When you have the About 1Password... window open try using the keyboard shortcut for copy in Windows, ctrl + C. I've just tried it here (admittedly in a VM but I don't believe that should make a difference) and it copied the following

    About 1Password

    1Password version: 4.6.0.586 (12)
    Extension version: 4.4.3 (Mozilla Firefox)

OS version: 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1

    OK

So with a little editing and you have what you need. Hopefully that helps a bit. If you're thinking "and how exactly was I meant to know that?!?" I'm in agreement, it isn't obvious that would happen but hopefully that snippet of information may prove useful should you need to report other sites.

Why isn't Report issue with XXXX feature not just a static option? I sometimes wonder if you go out of your way to make these things difficult to access.

@4EverMaAT: Indeed! We don't want people reporting websites without even trying to fill a login there. ;)

You can't assume that the user will never have a problem auto-filling.

Sorry for the confusion! We don't assume anything. We wait for you to try to fill the form with 1Password, and then we leave it up to the user to report it (or not) based on their actual experience.

I just tested the ctrl + c keyboard shortcut in Chrome and Firefox and it appears to work. A simple message in small text like 'press ctrl + c or click here to copy to clipboard' would have made all of the difference. Features like that do nothing for the user experience when they are hidden.

A fair point. But copy and paste are OS features, not part of 1Password. At this point I think that Microsoft assumes that these conventions are well-known (and I think that assumption is fairly true, at least for Windows users).

I always feel like I have to write a book to report a problem. And I have to go through extra hoops. I understand as someone who assists in software development that there will be bugs at times. But you have to be able to make it accessible for users to report a problem. Don't make that process too difficult. Assume the program can fail at multiple points of usage and log accordingly.

Agreed. And while I understand that you're frustrated, it would be much simpler (for all of us!) if we just brushed you off; but we're actually interested in understanding the problem so we can find a solution. So your feedback is both important and appreciated! :chuffed:

I still think that you should have an "attempted" and "not attempted" report a website option. You can hide the "not attempted" option in an additional cascading side menu that would be made unavailable if a form attempt is detected.

@4EverMaAT: Thanks for the suggestion! We can certainly consider changes like that in the future.

This will come up again, as your program does not always properly detect the attempt.

I'm more interested to know with which particular sites you've encountered this issue, where 1Password didn't even know it had been used to try to fill the login form. I don't recall encountering a case like this recently, and as you can imagine I test many different sites. Please let me know! The site itself might not be significant, so much as it may help us improve 1Password's form detection in general — which can benefit the actual saving and filling as well. Thanks in advance! :)

@brenty, it's the site @4EverMaAT and I were discussing at the start of the thread  There's an issue with ForexFactory.com in the Chrome browser (but not Firefox) where it doesn't fill or it seems even attempt to.

@littlebobbytables: Ahh, yes. I thought there might be others though. Thanks for clarifying!

@4EverMaAT: Thanks! Unless it's changed, this is just a flag in Google Update's registry settings:

    http://dev.chromium.org/administrators/turning-off-auto-updates

Granted, I'm not able to test this since I'm up-to-date, but is worth a shot. I'm not sure what good it will do you though. :)
