Syncing vault on another iPhone

My wife and I share bank cards and accounts as well as everything else. Our iTunes accounts are connected as "family" and shared. I would like to place
1Password Pro on her iPhone 6s Plus and make it a duplicate of the data on my iPhone so she can look
up everything on her own. Also this would create a
Secondary backup for our data in another location. We recently lost everything and had to redo all our
Passwords and accounts as we'll as everything else we had stored in 1Password when my iPhone failed
to restore properly when a new iPhone was synced
at the Genius Bar through the cloud. The backup in 1Password was incomplete and most of the data was lost. I would like 1Password to be on both our
iPhones and synch information with each other.

  • Hi @kennething,

I'd be happy to help you with that. The first thing I'd recommend doing is backing up your data:
    https://support.1password.com/ios-itunes-backups/

We'd recommend doing this weekly, and every time you make a major change, so at most you'd lose a week's worth of data in the event of a catastrophic failure.

As for sharing your vault with your wife, you'd need to use Dropbox to do this. Unfortunately iCloud doesn't allow for data sharing between two separate Apple IDs (even if family sharing is enabled). You can read about how to do this here:

    https://support.1password.com/guides/ios/sync-with-dropbox.html

That guide goes into some of the specifics but the general idea is: first you'd setup a Dropbox account that you and your wife can share, then sync your vault to that Dropbox account from your device. When you install 1Password on her device you'd select the option to setup as an existing user, and select to sync with Dropbox. You'll enter the same Dropbox account credentials as you used on your device.

I hope that helps. Should you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to ask.

Thank you so much, I have just a couple of questions...I have the Drop Box app for IOS and an account but I don't have it installed on my iPhone because I've never used it. Do I need to install the app on both our iPhones? Secondly, once I set up my wife's iPhone to have a duplicate of my primary vault (I have the pro version of your app but I don't understand how to setup a second vault, I thought I needed to upgrade so I could share my app and vault on my wifes phone or in my computer). Anyway my question is this. Once the app is installed on both our phones and the information is transferred and identicle, do I need to initiate a manual dropbox synch each time new information is added or daily? Or does it work like the automatic iCloud synch?

  • Hi @kennething,

The Dropbox app is not required, but it does make the process a little easier, so I would recommend doing so.

1Password will automatically sync each time it is launched. If you aren't seeing the most recent changes try closing and re-opening the app.

I have the pro version of your app but I don't understand how to setup a second vault

The Pro features enable your iOS devices to access secondary vaults, but secondary vaults can only be created in our desktop products (1Password for Mac or 1Password for Windows).

    Thanks!
