Trying to Upgrade from iPassword 3.7.2 to iPassword 6

For several years I have used 1Password exclusively on my iPhones, now iPhone 6 (9.0.2). Like many other users, the app is now quitting suddenly, and I need to upgrade to iPassword 6. I have started by downloading the backup file per the instructions on your site. But, when I try to open the file, a box says "The document “1Password0100-20151010.1ptbackup” could not be opened. Dropbox cannot open files of this type." I moved the file to my Desktop, but still no difference. What do I do now?
