Faulty attachment sync (wlan) between WIN8.1 and iPhone 6 iOS9.0.2 with newest 1passwordPRO on both

Dear Agilebits-Team,

lately I've been looking for a decent password manager that supports file attachments as well as wlan sync. As I don't trust clouds, I didn't choose LastPass, but I also didn't choose the free KeepassX, because I wanted to have some reliable support and more usability within the software. I paid quite a lot of money and I expected things to work. I really didn't expect to need support THAT QUICKLY :(.

Alright. I bought all of your software (newest versions) including iOS (1password 6.0) pro features, but presently all I am trying is to setup 1password on a Windows 8.1 laptop and my iPhone 6 running iOS 9.0.2. It is hard to believe that you didn't include the attachment insertion feature directly into iOS, but well, let's do it the hard way (=save photos from the phone to the PC to sync them back onto the phone...!!?!) and sync afterwards. I tried syncing by setting up an agilekeychain file, but there the attachments do not show up at all. The rest of the test logins and other data does sync. Then I tried the opvault data format (been searching the forum already, but didn't find anything useful regarding my problem) and synced this with the phone (by the way: does the PC data sync to the phone or does the phone shovel data back to the PC? Which overrides which, when in doubt? If there are two entries with different data, for instance...). The attachments do show up with opvault, but mostly fail to open ("loading...."). I can press "fertig" (I use the German version. It probably will be something like "finish" in english), then the app returns to the previous screen. If I try to push/move the "LADEN..." screen away with my finger, the app screen turns completely black (at the top I can still see the time, the charge status and my mobile carrier) and I cannot do anything but press the home button twice to kill the app.

I've inserted the same three files (a *.jpg, an *.pdf and an *.txt) into several logins, but only for one login it worked and the files can be opened. The rest fails as described before.

By the way: When opening a file I don't see the whole story, because the upper part of the document (textfile, PDF...) is overlayed either by the blue line with the title of the document as well as the "finish" button on the left and the "share" button on the right - or overlayed by the white text of the apple time display (middle), the charging percentage on the right and the mobile carrier on the left. It just does not make sense to display the document that way. I have to drag on it with my finger to fully see the top.

(Are you seriously selling a software that buggy??)

So... what can I do now to make things work?

Best regards,
Julia

PS: I use Opera as my default browser. Couldn't find an 1password extension for that one?

I've just done some more testing on the iPad2 iOS 9.0.2 + 1password 6.0.1. Attachment sync with *.agilekeychain file fails completely (no attachmements visible), the wlan sync with opvault seems to work here. I even can turn around the opened photo (horizontal view) by turning the iPad. This fails on iPhone, too. I can only see a small horizontal photo of the one (and only) login attachment that worked (with opvault). I can pinch into that photo, but I cannot spin it by turning my iPhone. Is it a bug, or just not implemented yet?

My conclusions are: the initial file seems to be enriched with the attachments, they just don't open on the buggy iPhone App. Which is version 6.0.1 by the way.
However, there seems to be another annoying but with the iPad app: When the screen locks after I have been looking at a photo and I open the screen back to that photo (inserting the master password), and then try to push the photo away with my finger (down the screen for instance), the app crashed showing me a complete black screen as described above in my first entry with the "LOADING...." screen within the iPhone app. Looks like this banana has to ripen, too :dizzy: :unamused:

  • Hi @sphaera,

I'm sorry to hear about the difficulty with attachments.

Agile Keychain is our legacy keychain format, and is only still the default as not all of our products support OPVault over all sync methods yet. OPVault is definitely the way to go, especially if you want to sync attachments from Windows to iOS.

This fails on iPhone, too. I can only see a small horizontal photo of the one (and only) login attachment that worked (with opvault). I can pinch into that photo, but I cannot spin it by turning my iPhone.

We have yet to implement landscape in a number of areas, especially on iPhone. This is something we hope to do in the future, but it is a long term goal.

My conclusions are: the initial file seems to be enriched with the attachments, they just don't open on the buggy iPhone App. Which is version 6.0.1 by the way.

Do these same files open on iOS if you, for example, mail them to yourself? Does Mail.app open them?

When the screen locks after I have been looking at a photo and I open the screen back to that photo (inserting the master password), and then try to push the photo away with my finger (down the screen for instance), the app crashed showing me a complete black screen as described above in my first entry with the "LOADING...." screen within the iPhone app.

Interesting. I just tried to reproduce this on my iPhone and was unable to. Is it only happening on the iPad?

    Thanks.

    Ben

    Hi @bwoodruff,

thanks for getting back in touch with me.

"Do these same files open on iOS if you, for example, mail them to yourself? Does Mail.app open them?"
-- I just tested it. All of the same files open in the Mail app just fine. A jpg, a pdf and the txt.

"Do these same files open on iOS if you, for example, mail them to yourself? Does Mail.app open them?"

-- Just tested that one, too. No, it also happens on the iPhone. For the other Logins with (the same) attachments I see the attachment names and can tap on them, but then I get the "LOADING..." thing and nothing opens. If I press "finish" in the top left corner, the loading process of the attachment stops and I get back to the app. If I try to move the white "loading" window with my finger (especially when pushing it downwards), I get the black screen and the app does not react anymore and I have to kill it. Yeah, that's what happens so far.

    Best regards,
    Julia

  • Thanks Julia ( @sphaera ). That is quite strange. I'd like to get a peek at what is going on under the hood when you see that message. Please try opening an attachment that causes this issue, and then I'd like to ask you to create a Diagnostics Report from your iOS device:

    https://support.1password.com/diagnostics/ios.html

Attach the Diagnostics Report to an email message addressed to support+forum@agilebits.com.

Please do not post your Diagnostics Report in the forums, but please do include a link to this thread in your email, along with your forum handle so that we can "connect the dots" when we see your Diagnostics Report in our inbox.

You should receive an automated reply from our BitBot assistant with a Support ID number. Please post that number here so we can track down the report and ensure that it is dealt with quickly. :)

Once we see the report we should be able to better assist you. Thanks very much!

    Dear Ben,

I've been quite busy lately with winning a few golden awards for my work. Now that the fair is over and my prototypes worked just fine, I can finally take care about my private stuff again. During the last days I've been trying to work on my password container. Didn't want to send you the one I am (not yet) using, but which is already full with my recent passwords. Made another one, testwise, but couldn't sync it over wifi as the first one. Why? The system only offers Dropbox for sync. Dropbox sync works, but what happened to the wifi sync option? Or at least iCloud? In the meanwhile you've managed to release a new version of 1password, and I've been deleting and reinstalling everything on my iPad2 and iPhone once again. Not just updating, but a clean reinstall. Magically, syncing of attachments now seems to work, yay! During the next few days or weeks I will be filling the container with more of my various passwords and will try to use it regularly, until I feel safe to change all the passwords to even more complicated ones that can only be managed by a password container but not a brain anymore. That will take some time, I suppose. Till then I'd love to understand, why I presently can't sync a second or third password container over wifi.

    Best regards,
    Julia

PS: I'll probably buy an iPad Pro in near future. Will I be able to use 1password on that one?

  • Thanks for the update, Julia!

    Or at least iCloud?

We use Apple's CloudKit technology for iCloud syncing, and that technology is not available on Windows.

but what happened to the wifi sync option?

    WiFi sync is still there:

    Sync over Wi-Fi

Till then I'd love to understand, why I presently can't sync a second or third password container over wifi.

This is a limitation of 1Password for Windows. 1Password for Windows does not currently understand the concept of multiple vaults. It only knows about the currently open vault. To implement WiFi sync on Windows we will need to build a fair amount of infrastructure, so this is likely some ways off.

1Password for Mac does have the ability to sync the primary vault plus (optionally) any additional vaults via WiFi.

PS: I'll probably buy an iPad Pro in near future. Will I be able to use 1password on that one?

1Password for iOS is compatible with the iPad Pro. If you use the same Apple ID on it as you do on your other iOS devices you'll be able to access any purchases you've made using that Apple ID on it.

    Thanks!

    Ben
