You will be able to continue to use the Pro features on any iOS device that uses the same Apple ID you used to buy access to the Pro features. As long as AgileBits continues to offer free upgrades, that will continue to apply. But if a paid upgrade for iOS comes around, it is possible that you may gave to buy Pro access again. The freemium distribution model came around with the release of iOS 8 and 1Password 5. Registered users of iOS version 4 were allowed to use the Pro features without an additional payment, and that has continued to be the case through the most recent release, version 6. But that only works because version 5 was released as an update to version 4, not an upgrade.

Because Apple's App Stores only allow updates to be free, developers who want to charge for a major upgrade have to withdraw the previous version and issue the upgrade as a new application. That might mean that when that happens with 1Password, the Pro features may have to be bought again. (In my opinion, this is a major flaw in the Apple's policies with respect to their App Stores. Because they don't allow for upgrade pricing, they make it hard for developers to afford to keep developing their products.)

Someone who works for AgileBits might have more to say about this. This is how I understand the Apple Stores to work.

  • Hey @vatsgaurav15! Historically, AgileBits has been very generous with upgrades. Your purchase entitles you to free updates until the next major version upgrade. That means if you buy Pro features for version 6 of 1Password, you will get all 6.x releases for free, but upgrading to version 7 might require another purchase. Hope that helps clear things up! :)
