Forked vaults syncing with Dropbox

I have one vault stored on Dropbox that I access from two Macs (iMacs running El Cap) and 4 iOS devices (iPad Air 2, iPad 3, iPhone 6s, iPhone 5s). The vault is located at Dropbox/. However, my wife's iMac has somehow decided that the proper location is Dropbox/1Password/, and unbeknownst to me set up its own vault there. Now I have two vaults, both have which have some up to date data. So, two questions. 1) How do I get my wife's iMac to point to the same vault as the others (it doesn't seem to let me choose a different "Primary" vault, and 2) is there some way to merge the two vaults?

  • Hi @bdew,

Thanks for taking the time to write in. I'm sorry to hear about the trouble. I apologize as we do not have a great way currently to merge multiple vaults that have drifted apart. Hopefully that is something we can improve in the future. For now, I'll provide the best way we have:

    1) Double click on the correct 1Password keychain in Dropbox on your wife's Mac. This should add it as a secondary vault.
    2) Manually copy any items from her primary vault to this secondary vault that are newer in her vault. Unfortunately this is a very manual process.
    3) Make sure that all of your other devices reflect the changes that have been made on your wife's Mac.
    4) Follow these instructions to start fresh on your wife's Mac: https://support.1password.com/starting-over/mac.html

Be sure to select the proper vault when starting over in step #4. Once you are sure everything is as it should be you can delete the keychain that is in Dropbox that was in use on your wife's Mac.

Again I apologize that there is not currently an easier way to accomplish this. Thanks!

    Ben
