User Interface Performance Optimization

I struggled a bit with a title for this post, but basically I'm looking to request a few minor tweaks that would speed up a use case I find myself executing at least twice per day and often more. I own an iPhone 6 Plus.

Unlike other posts I read on the topic of animation, I am in and out of the actual iOS app multiple times per day. I use Touch ID to unlock my vault. The process of launching the app, waiting for the animation, waiting for Touch ID, and waiting for more animation feels painfully slow as I stumble for a Starbuck app password while in line attempting to reload a starbucks card from a credit card. There are other use cases that fit this description, but this is the only one I execute flanked by people waiting for me. Is there any way we could have an application setting to just disable animation?

In the same use case described above, another delay is caused by the lack of a direct copy button on the password field. Instead one must tap and hold for a second, wait for the popup, and select copy. This is considerably slower to execute than tapping on a "Copy" button in/near the password field would be. One annoyance, which is Apple's fault, is the finicky nature of the tap and hold menu. Do it even slightly wrong and the menu disappears immediately or never appears. All the more reason to provide a directly accessible copy button for the password field.

Thank you,
Andrew

  • Hi Andrew ( @aeberhar ),

Thanks for taking the time to write in!

I certainly understand the desire for function over form with a task that you are doing repeatedly and daily. Unfortunately even if we did offer such an option it would not speed up the process any. The reason we include the animation is because there is processing going on in the background, and without the animation the app would simply appear frozen.

Unfortunately this is not a case of us intentionally delaying the process, where we could simply remove that delay and have everything happen faster.

As for quicker access to copying your passwords... If you swipe left on the title of an item in the listing that will offer you a copy button. This may be quicker than opening the detail view for the item and press & holding on the password field to reveal a copy button.

I hope that helps. Should you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to ask.

    Thanks!

    Ben

Thanks Ben. Even something as small as the swipe to copy gesture will save me time. Thank you!

  • Excellent. Glad to hear that helps some. :)
