iPad 1Password won't unlock

Hi all,
My iPad 1P app is refusing to unlock. It is asking for my master password which I have typed in, slowly, carefully, but without success. I have not forgotten my password as I use it daily and it works on my PC. What options do I have to recover my account ?

It may be unrelated but does the iOS app have an issue with long passwords at all ? I noticed that when I entered my password' 25th character, it did not display in the password field - as all others prior to it did - but simply showed as a hidden character. I am assuming this is simply to reduce the font size so longer passwords fit in the field. This again happened up until the 32nd character, which then displayed correctly, and then changed to a dot accordingly.

1Password Version: 4.6.0.586 (12)
Extension Version: 4.4.3 (FF)
OS Version: Win 8.1
Sync Type: WiFi

I've deleted the app/data and reinstalled it. I couldn't see a way around it and needed it done pretty swiftly. Shame it happened though since nothing has changed on my iPad and my password was 100% correct.

  • Hi @seedy,

Thanks for taking the time to write in.

Is your iPad jailbroken by chance? Everything you type in the Master Password field should be appearing as a "dot."

Also: have you changed your Master Password recently, or do you use any characters as part of your Master Password that do not appear on this keyboard's printed keys?

The Master Password field can only display so many characters at a time, but they are all entered into the field and simply scroll off screen if there isn't room for them. This does not affect the acceptance of the password in any way.

    Please let us know. Thanks!

    Ben

The iPad is not jailbroken, no, and is current with iOS updates. The password displays the characters as I enter them only momentarily, presumably so I can visually confirm I've hit the correct key. They then change to a dot within approx.1 second.

All of my passwords' characters appear on the printed keys of the keyboard you have posted above. I have not changed my password recently.

The password does not scroll off the screen. The whole password remains visible (the dots do anyway) and the text (dot) size reduces in size dependant on the password length.

Thanks for your reply - please note my second post if you haven't already.

I see. I misunderstood your original post. That is indeed the intended function.

Okay, thanks for the additional information.

Interesting. When testing on my device that is not my experience. Granted I am testing on an iPhone 6 (non-Plus) and so the difference may be in which hardware we're using.

Ah! It appears we may have been composing our replies at the same time and as such I missed yours. Thank you for pointing it out. Glad to hear you were able to find a solution.

    Thanks for the follow up.

    Ben
