upgrade on Mac from 5.4 to 5.4.1, missing option for iCloud sync

After downloading 5.4.1 (can still run 5.4), I have not found a way to import my data to the upgrade. iCloud as a source is not available for 5.4.1, so far as I can tell. How can I best move data from 5.4 to the new 5.4.1? It would help if I could locate the backup files, which I haven't been able to do.

@cpailthorp I have merged your two separate posts into one thread because it makes support easier and also makes it easier for you to find the answers you need.

Does anything in this knowledge base article help?

Version 5.4 of 1 Password synchs with iCloud on all devices (Mac Pro, iPad, iPhone). With 5.4.1 installed, I find only Dropbox and Folder as synch options -- no "iCloud." How can I establish an iCloud option for synching with 5.4.1?

  • Hey @cpailthorp! How did you upgrade in the first place? We recommend using the Check for Update option in the 1Password menu when the app is open. If you manually downloaded and replaced the app, that can cause some issues. It sounds like you did, since you have two versions of the app on your computer. If you're having trouble getting your data from iCloud, the guide that Stephen posted may help out with that. Please give us a bit more background information so we can help out with the specifics. :)

Thanks, pendenworth, for your help. You're right: I manually downloaded 5.4.1 rather than upgrading from within 5.4. I worked through the iCloud troubleshooting steps but didn't solve the problem. I've trashed 5.4.1, but I am not finding the Check for Update option in the 1 Password menu (nor in preferences). A consequence of having downloaded 5.4.1 manually?

I've just learned that because I downloaded 1Password on the Apple App site, that has to be my source for updates (unless I download manually from the Agilebits site.) The App store does not offer 5.4.1.

The version from the Mac App Store has iCloud sync, but the version direct from AgileBits does not, due to restrictions by Apple.

I would guess that you have 5.4 from the App Store, but got 5.4.1 from AgileBits.

In fact I thought I saw a mention that 5.4.1 is not available on the App Store as yet because it takes time for Apple to approve a submission. But I may be wrong on this.

@cpailthorp it's really rather more helpful if you keep all posts on the same subject in one thread. I note you started another thread on the point mentioned in your last post here and you already have a reply to that post. I mention that here only to avoid anyone else duplicating the support in this thread.

    Hey @cpailthorp!

Sorry for any confusion caused here but version 5.4 is actually the latest version for 1Password purchased from the Mac App Store.

So if you downloaded 1Password again from the Mac App Store, you should be running the latest version :)

    Hi @cpailthorp,

I noticed you had a couple different forum discussions for the same issue, so I've merged them together to avoid confusion.

It looks like the others here have already helped to clear up the confusion, but just to reiterate:

The latest update for the Mac App Store version of 1Password 5 for Mac (which has iCloud sync) is currently 5.4. If you also have version 5.4.1, then it sounds like you also downloaded the AgileBits Store version (which does not have iCloud sync). The reason those version numbers don't match is because the only change in 5.4.1 is related to purchasing a license for the AgileBits Store version:

    • 5.4.1: Fixed an issue that caused the webpage to reload after using the in-app purchase feature.

That change doesn't apply to the Mac App Store version because purchasing/licensing is managed by the Mac App Store. Therefore we didn't need to release 5.4.1 for the Mac App Store version.

When we release an update for the Mac App Store version of 1Password 5, you'll see that in the Mac App Store, under the Updates section, and you can install it from there. But right now, you already have the latest version from the Mac App Store. You can delete the 1Password 5.app file that you downloaded from our website (just don't use any app cleaning tools to do that).

Hopefully you're all set, but if you have more questions or need anything else, just let us know. :)
