Thanks for the reply referring me to the article on how to remember my master password.

I am still unsure on what is meant by master password used in setting up the app.

The password I use to open 1password on my iPad is it the master password?

I am able to open 1password on my iPad.

I have had to replace m iPhone 5. I am attempting to restore 1password on my replacement iPhone 5.

I am asked to use my master password to restore the backup file. The password I us to open the app on the iPad is not accepted as the master password.?

If it is not am I able to setup all data by copying it item by item by email and import to a new copy of the app opened on my iPhone or by buying a Windows copy of the software and setting a new copy of the app on Windows?

Thanks

Colin

  • Hi @Colzac56 ,

The Master Password is setup on each device. If you use 1Password on different devices, you may have set up a different master password on each device.

So, to unlock the backup on your iPhone, you need to use the master password from your iPhone, the one you used when creating the backup.

If you can not remember your iPhone password, and you have all of your passwords on the iPad, we can set up sync to automatically sync all of the iPad's 1Password data over to your iPhone. Let us know if you wish to do this.

    Regards,
    Kevin

    Hi @Colzac56,

For your privacy and security, your Master Password is known only by you. We cannot reset it for you and you cannot change it without entering the old one. There is also no "back door" to access your data without the Master Password. If there were, that would be a security hole that could be exploited to gain access to your secure information.

What I can do is give you instructions on how to do this yourself. The first thing you will want to do is uninstall the 1Password app from all of your devices except the one iPad that has all of your data. Then please follow the instructions below.

    1. Set up syncing on your iPad following these instructions here.
    2. Re-install the app on your other iOS devices, one at a time, following these instructions here.

That should get all of your iOS devices in sync with each other.

Then for your Windows app, follow these instructions here.

That should get your data on to all of your devices with the same Master Password for them all.

Please let is know if you have any questions about any of these steps.
