Is there an easier and more reliable way to copy passwords? Is there a button in the works?
Right now, we all have to copy passwords by clicking on the area of the password and getting the options in white text. Wouldn't a button that copies the password be less awkward and more reliable? As in, copy password here!! The current method seems awkward to get it on the clipboard. With just the press of a button, which would be located at the bottom of the screen or at the bottom of the password box/area, we could add the password to the clipboard for pasting. Please consider it.
Thank you.
Marc

@zeteticman11: If you swipe an item from the left, it will give you the option to copy it. Does that help? :)

:) No!! I want the certainty and ease of use of a button! I can easily envision scenarios where swiping on sensitive information could lead to disaster, namely, accidental erasure. A button is a sure thing. But thanks for that tip Brenty. I get the feeling you want to keep things simple. What could be easier than a button? I have some very long and important passwords I feel uneasy about doing anything to. As a result, I've backed up all my 94 passwords on index cards; all are a minimum of sixty characters and I have nightmares about losing them in the middle of copying them. I'm sorry to be selfish but I find the idea of a button very reassuring. There's also a kind of elegance to it, no? Something modern like silver gray with a dash of 3-D. And a pop up message, your password has now been copied to the clipboard. What do you think? Does this idea have a chance? Or do I have to learn swift, objective c, cocoa and Xcode to make my button happen?:) I really do have 94 passwords that I copy and paste heavily and that I sweat over. I sure would appreciate it if you could air the idea with your colleagues.
Thanks

@zeteticman11: Hmm. I definitely appreciate the point you're making, as it would certainly be easy for us to add a button.
However, part of the reason we haven't done so is because that would make it too easy to accidentally copy sensitive information to the clipboard. Keep in mind that all apps can access clipboard data, so this would pose an unnecessary risk. The swipe-to-copy feature is there to enable you to quickly copy passwords without taking up valuable screen real estate or introducing the risk of inadvertently exposing passwords via the clipboard.
Also, there's no need to fear deleting items, as the only swipe action in the item list is the left-to-right to access the Copy to Clipboard option. ;)

Brenty,
I had not thought of that at all. That's a very valid and important point you make. Incidentally, I tried your swipe method and it works pretty well; I don't think I'll lose any passwords using it !(swiping from the left for those of you who joined us late). So I guess there's no need for a button after all.
Thanks for clarifying that for me.
Best,

You're very welcome! Thanks for taking the time to offer this feedback. Your original suggestion might not be the best option at this time, but it always helps to get another perspective. Often new features aren't the ones that have been asked for, but rather they solve the problem that prompted the feature request. So we'll keep looking for ways to make strong security even more convenient. That benefits us all. :chuffed:

Something just occurred to me. I'd hate to be argumentative since I really appreciate the way you guys support your app--I wince when I think of the "support" other developers offer--but isn't the password copied to the clipboard when we swipe? I could be wrong, I probably am; there's probably a reason why that I don't know about. But it seems that the password is in fact copied to the clipboard when we swipe!! Yes or no? Maybe this idea has already been discussed and rejected by all the staff. I don't know. But maybe you could throw it out there and see what your colleagues think? Please? Maybe a button with a timer so that it expires relatively quickly on the clipboard and doesn't pose a security problem? A button that copies the password when one needs to paste it somewhere. The situation arises a lot, surprisingly.
On a side note, I just wanted to thank all of you for supporting your app with this great forum. You must know by now--and even before now when you created it--from all the acclaim and praise and awards that you created a great app. Probably the best in the App Store. But in addition to that, you've created this great forum to help us when we have problems. I really appreciate that, and special thanks go to Brenty and MrRooni for helping me with a problem I had syncing with iCloud. It works now!!
Thanks guys.

@zeteticman11: Hey, nothing wrong with a good argument, so long as we can be civil!

Yes! When you swipe from left to right and tap the Copy option, it copies the password to the clipboard. My point was that hiding it behind a swipe-and-tap gesture prevents us from tapping and copying inadvertently. After all, while it is a necessary evil in some cases, clipboard data is available system-wide. I'm sorry if I confused things a bit. Be sure to let me know if you have any other questions!
