Update from 4 to 5 - Missing data

@rbengraff I note you've also posted in here in this thread but that appears to indicate that the problem is not exactly as you describe it here. I think it would be helpful if you would please confirm:
- What version of 1P for Mac you are using (the link will tell you how to find that information)
- Your OS X version number
- Whether you sync your 1P data to any other device and, if so, to what device and what sync method you use
- How you transferred your old 1P data when you rebuilt your hard drive

I was using 4. I mistakenly downloaded a trial of 5. Then corrected that by downloading the legacy version that I owned. The data is in my dropbox folder and all of my devices sync with it just fine. And now I am noticing that i have a 4.1 meg file when the current one should now be 4.9mb. Also it greeted me with my old password. When I went into sync prefs I choose the dropbox data instead of the iCloud. It did then ask me to type in my current (new password) which was a good sign, and then merged. But I still seem to be a) looking at older versions of some secure notes and B) still being asked to sign in using my old password. Man when I read this back it sounds confusing I hope it is relatively clear.

Hi @rbengraff,
Thanks for the additional information! It definitely helps, but I'm a little confused about a few things, and I think we can get this all sorted out with a bit more information:
I was using 4. I mistakenly downloaded a trial of 5. Then corrected that by downloading the legacy version that I owned.
1Password 5 for Mac is a free upgrade from version 4, so as long as your Mac is running OS X 10.10 (Yosemite) or 10.11 (El Capitan), you should be using 1Password 5. Or is the problem that your Mac is running OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) or 10.9 (Mavericks)? Please let us know which version of OS X is running on your Mac. If it's running 10.10 or 10.11, is there a reason why you want to continue using 1Password 4?
The data is in my dropbox folder and all of my devices sync with it just fine.
Aside from your Mac, what other devices are you syncing with 1Password? What version of 1Password are you using on those devices?
If you add a new item (like a new Secure Note) in 1Password on one of those other devices, does it sync to the other devices, including your Mac? If you add a new item on your Mac, does it sync to your other devices?
And now I am noticing that i have a 4.1 meg file when the current one should now be 4.9mb.
What file are you referring to? Is it a sync file in Dropbox that ends with ".agilekeychain" or ".opvault"? Is it possible you have more than one sync file in your Dropbox folder? Where do you see that the file is 4.1 MB, and where do you see that it's 4.9 MB? If you check the sync settings in 1Password on your Mac and your other devices, are they all syncing with the exact same file in the exact same location in Dropbox?
Also it greeted me with my old password.
I'm assuming this means you changed your master password at some point? If so, where did you change it (i.e. on your Mac, or another device) and do all your other devices accept the new master password?
Also, when you say it "greeted" you with your old master password, what do you mean, exactly? Did it ask for the old master password when enabling Dropbox sync in 1Password on your Mac, or when opening 1Password for the first time after rebuilding your hard drive?
When I went into sync prefs I choose the dropbox data instead of the iCloud.
Had you previously been syncing with iCloud instead of Dropbox at some point? Is 1Password still syncing with iCloud on any of your other devices? If you've used both iCloud and Dropbox sync at different times, that might explain why Dropbox seems to have some older 1Password data.
It did then ask me to type in my current (new password) which was a good sign, and then merged. But I still seem to be a) looking at older versions of some secure notes and B) still being asked to sign in using my old password.
I might be a little confused about the chain of events on your Mac after rebuilding your hard drive. When you reinstalled 1Password, did you set it up by syncing existing 1Password data in iCloud, and then later switch to Dropbox sync? Is it currently asking for the old master password to unlock 1Password on your Mac, but asked for the new master password to enable Dropbox sync & merge?
In addition to my questions above, can you also please confirm the following:
- What exact version of the 1Password app is currently installed on your Mac?
- Are you using the AgileBits Store version or the Mac App Store version of 1Password?
- Do you have multiple vaults in 1Password on any of your devices, or just one/Primary vault?
Sorry for all the questions! I just want to make sure we understand what happened and how things are currently setup. Once we know all that, we should have a much better idea of how to get this all working correctly again. Thanks in advance! :)
