iOS is not syncing to Dropbox (again)

I have a Mac, an iPhone 6 and an iPad which have all been happily syncing my 1Password data via Dropbox.
Today, I finally switched Amazon to Two Phase Authentication, which I confirmed on the iPhone.
I went to check on the iPad only to discover that it hadn't synced.

Looking on dropbox.com, I can see that despite the little Sync icon was spinning on the iPhone, no files are being touched on Dropbox.

When I look in the Settings, the Sync button takes me to a page that shows "Items: 353" and nothing else.

When I look at the individual vaults, they are both configured to use Dropbox and I can press the "sync now" button and the icon spins then it claims the sync was successful, but dropbox.com still shows nothing has changed.

I do update passwords on whichever device I have handy at the time so I cannot know that either of them is completely up to date - I've been assuming that the sync was on a record-by-record basis.

1Password Version: 6.1.1
Extension Version: Not Provided
OS Version: iOS 9.1 (13B143)
Sync Type: Dropbox

I just had the same problem after adding Two Factor for Amazon. Even though the phone claimed it had synced with Dropbox the Amazon login did not update on my Mac. After several minutes (~5) I changed the iPhone to show only the vault with the Amazon login instead of "Everything". Immediately after doing that the Amazon login updated on the Mac.

  • Hi folks,

Unfortunately there is a bug in the current version of 1Password for iOS where vaults will not sync automatically when the All Vaults view is selected. It is still possible to force a sync manually. We hope to have this fixed up soon.

but dropbox.com still shows nothing has changed.

Hmm. That should be working. Are you in fact not seeing the changes you make on your other devices?
It may be necessary to actually switch to the Primary (or, whichever vault the changes exist in) to cause the sync.

Please let me know if that helps.

    Thanks!

The website dropbox.com has a "Recent" view which shows documents you changed recently. 1Password is not touching anything.

One other thing I did, during this recent edit, was change the tag I'm using on my "Two Phase Authentication" items to "Two Phase" - the UI on the phone doesn't do auto-completion, and if you get a single character wrong in case, it creates a new tag, so I was simpifying my life. I don't know whether perhaps 1Password does not think a tag change is worth of a sync?

Switching so that "All Vaults" only included my Primary Vault has had no effect on the "sync now" - it spins the icon, but does not upload to Dropbox. I also note that onthe All Vaults tab, if you toggle either of the switches (to include/exclude a vault), the iPhone immediate goes back TWO panes in the Navigation - ie, it takes you all the way back to Settings, rather than leave you on the Settings>Vaults>All Vaults pane - on my iPad, toggling the switches does not change your location. Perhaps there is something wrong in that part of the settings logic...

I could try changing my Amazon settings on my iPad and see if that syncs instead, to see if this is an iPhone problem. I'm just loathe to do that because breaking your authentication settings on a website is never easy to repair.

Ok, I switched off Amazon two-phase, then ran the whole process again on my iPad. Same result, the iPad has the entry now, but when I use the Sync Now, it is not changing anything on Dropbox.

When I look in 1Password>1Password.agilekeychain>data>default I can see that the latest file was modified 8th November. I can't tell what the actual entry is because it's encrypted, though its from publisher MacAppWare. I did buy a bundle from someone recently who let me upload all my new serial#s in a single .pif - I was a little annoyed that they all came in as Favorites and un-favorited them all. Perhaps this has also contributed to the issue.

I seriously add 1Password information on all three devices (iPhone/iPad/Mac) depending on which one I'm using at the time - I do my damndest never to have all three editing stuff at the same time though.

  • Sorry Jeff, I may not have been clear. What I was trying to say is that you may have to switch from the "All Vaults" view to the "Primary" vault view in order to get the Primary vault to sync. It isn't necessary to make the Primary vault be the only vault visible in All Vaults.

See "Switching to other vaults" on this page: https://support.1password.com/guides/ios/multiple-vaults.html

    Thanks!

Ah, I see - I had no idea those things were different. Yes, I've switched and I can see that it has synced fine.
I just need to see now which of the two Amazon entries has stuck. :-)
Thanks for getting back so quick, and I look forward to the next update.

    Jeff.

  • Thanks Jeff. Sorry for the difficulty and added confusion. Glad to hear switching to the primary vault worked, for now. Hopefully we'll have an update addressing this out soon.
