@Barchandune - Could you please tell how you are going about trying to sync your data? Are younus No Dropbox? iCloud? Wi-Fi? And when you try to sync your data,my hat happens? Do you get any messages? What do they say.

Have you seen the user guides? The one for Mac would be a good place to begin: Syncing your 1Password data

When I open the sync tab on my iPhone 5s all its says is "Items 256"
Nothing about current sync method or options for choosing a sync method
Any ideas about what is going on?

    Thank you for responding
I did use the guides. I had been using iCloud but I noticed that it had not synced in over a month. About the last time I did an update on 1Password. On my desktop (iMac) I am not given the choice of iCloud, only dropbox. On my iPad, it still says I am syncing with iCloud but on the iPhone it does not have any info about sync methods.

@Barchandune - If you do not see an option for iCloud syncing on the Mac desktop application, it means that you are using the version from the AgileBits web store. Only the version from the Mac App Store will have that ability, because Apple has denied access to the required protocols for syncing through iCloud to application they do not sell themselves from one of their r App Stores. Since the iOS version comes from Apple, it can sync to iCloud.

Now, you can sync via Dropbox with everything you have. That has some advantages, such as the ability to sync multiple vaults and to share data with other users. The Mac App Store version doesn't permit either. These two cloud options are equally secure, because security relies on your strong master password and the application's encryption. But if you feel iCloud is important enough to you, AgileBits will refund your money and you can buy another license from Apple, but only if your license was purchased within the past 30 days. Otherwise, you'll need to decide whether the extra cost of a new license from Apple is worth it to you and buy a new license from the Mac App Store if it is. Apple does not provide developers any way to transfer licenses to the Mac App Store.

Thanks again hawkmoth, I get it. I did see the note in the guides that iCloud sync was not available if I purchased directly from AgileBits, but it seemed to me that I was using iCloud before the last upgrade, so I assumed I had purchased it from Apple. No worries though. I'm perfectly happy with dropbox since you point out that there is no difference in security. That's doesn't, however, prevent me from feeling snarky about Apple. (Although I admit that I keep buying their products because I can talk to a live tech within a few minutes - even if I have to go through a couple of them to solve my problem.)

My question now is, when I open the "sync" tab in settings on the iPhone, all it says is "items 256" and there is nothing suggesting that I am set up to use dropbox.

Also, another unrelated problem is that I just discovered that the dropbox on my desktop is one that is registered to my wife and is full. I'll deal with that and then see how it works.

    thanks

    Greetings @Barchandune,

I know you definitely purchased a licence for 1Password 5 late last year from us and here hawkmoth is correct, the AgileBits Store version of 1Password 5 cannot sync to iCloud. For more on this I would recommend Dave Teare's announcement following the release of iCloud Drive alongside iOS 8, iCloud Changes in the Website Version of 1Password 5. Now it might be you later purchased another copy of 1Password 5 from Apple's Mac App Store but if you did then you haven't moved over to it given you reported that you're running 5.4.1, a version that was only made available for AgileBits Store users.

If you are an AgileBits Store customer then unfortunately I have to report that iCloud won't be an option, again as hawkmoth has already covered. As you purchased late last year we are quite outside the refund window of 30 days - sorry.

I don't how you would feel about an alternative syncing solution. In terms of cloud sync there is Dropbox and if it's just between a single Mac and one or more iOS devices then Wi-Fi Sync is also available.

To answer your question about why you can't see the sync option in 1Password for iOS. The latest version of 1Password for iOS introduced a new view called All Vaults. It shows you the combined contents of all vaults and it's just a view, it isn't doing anything else. As such it doesn't have any form of sync itself. If you were to change to the Primary vault and then look in the Sync tab it will show you the details you're looking for and you will likely find it is indeed syncing to iCloud. Another way to see these same details is to go to Settings > Vaults > Primary in 1Password for iOS, this will show you the same information.

Once we find out how you feel about the possibility of Dropbox or if you have purchased 1Password for Mac from Apple's Mac App Store we can guide you through what to do.

Thanks again. I am fine with dropbox. I'm not interested getting the App store version of 1Password. I want to sync my desktop iMac with two iPads and two iPhones. If I can do that with dropbox, that's great. Otherwise, if wifi sync is secure, I'm ok with that too.

@Barchandune - You most certainly can use Dropbox to keep all of those devices synchronized. I think the discussion in the Mac User Guide should cover how to do that: Sync with Dropbox

If you have questions about that, be sure to let us know.

  • @Barchandune Dropbox will work perfectly for your setup. :) You can get things set up by following the guide that hawkmoth linked to. Let us know how everything goes.
