Hi

What happens next when .OPVault becomes the default? I still have some older systems that still use .AgileKeychain.

1Password Version: iOS 4.5.3, Mac 3.8 or 3.9

    Hi @wkleem,

Good question! :) The answer is that once OPVault becomes the default sync format for Dropbox and Folder sync, your existing Agile Keychain files will not be affected at all.

To elaborate on that: Changing the default sync format for Dropbox and Folder sync will not automatically convert an existing .agilekeychain file to a .opvault file. All that change really means is that any new sync files will be created in the OPVault format. So for example, if you disable Dropbox sync and delete your current .agilekeychain file, then re-enable Dropbox sync, the new sync file it creates will be a .opvault file. If you need to keep using Agile Keychain, just don't delete your .agilekeychain file(s) (you can still re-enable sync with an existing .agilekeychain file).

Moreover, the change to OPVault as the default Dropbox and Folder sync format will only happen in the current/latest versions of 1Password that already support it. The older versions you're using will still create sync files in the Agile Keychain format. And the latest versions will still sync with your .agilekeychain files.

Hopefully that answers your questions, but please let us know if you need anything else. We're always happy to help! :)

Thanks Drew! Is 1Password 6 for iOS able to switch vaults? Previously, Primary is named as is and subsequent vaults with their own passwords use the primary vault's master password. The order of the vaults weren't switchable.

    Hi,

Another question. Now that 1Password 6 in iOS supports .OPVault, is the demo vault created in ?AgileKeyChain or .OPVault.

    Thanks

    Hi @wkleem,

Switching the ordering of vaults in 1Password for iOS isn't an easy task. It would require resetting the iOS app completely and adding the desired primary vault first and then the order of the rest wouldn't matter as currently vaults are ordered using alphabetical sorting. Basically we don't have an easy to use user interface for this yet.

To answer your other query, when you add a demo vault to either 1Password for Mac or iOS it's added internally to the SQLite database file. If you decide to synchronise it it would also use the same sync container as any other vault would use. Hopefully that made sense.

    Does that help?

Thanks, @littlebobbytables for the explanation. If I have .AgileKeychain for Primary, the Demo Vault will be .AgileKeychain too? And the same for .OPVault?

  • @wkleem When you change the vault creation setting, it applies to all vaults that are created after that point. So, if you follow this guide to switch to the OPVault you'll find that all vaults created after that point will be OPVault. If you switch back to Agile Keychain, you'll find that all vaults created after that point will be Agile Keychain. You can change the exiting format using step three of the guide. Hope that helps!
