Auto-fill Email Accounts

Hello, I have been using 1Password for around 2 years on my iPhone, I have added all my email accounts to the "Email Accounts" category. Today I purchased 1Password for Mac and I cannot be able to configure it to auto-fill my email accounts on the login fields.
I have the pluggins installed and when I open my email provider's website I click the shortcut "cmd+\" to show 1Password, then I select "Email Accounts" and my email account but it does not auto-fills.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi @Hazneliel,

I'm sorry for any confusion here, but Email Accounts items cannot be used to fill forms on websites. This is the same in the Mac and iOS versions of 1Password, as well as other platforms. In order to fill your username/password in a sign-in form on a website (whether it's web mail or another kind of site), you'll need to create a Login item. The easiest way to do that would be to copy your username & password into the sign-in form on that website, and when you submit that, 1Password should ask if you want to save a new Login.

The Email Accounts category is for storing all the details you need to configure a native email client, such as a port number, SMTP server, POP3 or IMAP, and so on. But the Logins category is for filling sign-in forms on websites. So, depending on the information you want to store in 1Password, you might want to have two items - even if it's for the same email account - because those items are used for different reasons.

Hopefully this helps, but please let us know if you need anything else. Thanks! :)

Thank you, thats very unfortunate, I will have to re add all my email accounts (I have thousands used for testing), I dont see why 1password cannot just fill data from the email accounts as well.

    Hi @Hazneliel,

I'm glad that Drew was able to answer your question, even if it wasn't quite the answer that you were looking for. As a general rule the 'primary' categories in 1Password are the Logins, Credit Cards, and Identities. These are the categories that are coded to be able to fill in on webforms. All other categories are secondary, and used simply for organizational purposes. You can learn more about Categories in our User Guide.
