Running out of town for holiday and Mac Pro and Laptop not synching. I don't have time to spend an hour plus running through your steps to make 1Password work. Very frustrated!! What's the best and simplest, quickest way to sync between my devices?? I'm using iCloud but it's obviously not a good way to go as I've got new passwords on both my Mac Pro and MacBook Pro that aren't synched.

1Password Version: 5.4.1
Extension Version: Don't know how to check, but most recent
OS Version: 10.10.5
Sync Type: iCloud

    Hi @Myname,

I'm so sorry to hear that you've been frustrated with sync lately. I see from the notes in your post that you took a look at our iCloud troubleshooting article in the knowledgebase. Did you go through any of the steps described there? It's important to know what you've tried so that we don't repeat ourselves here, and the advice in the article usually resolves most iCloud issues.

When you reply, it will also be helpful to know the version number of your iOS and 1Password for iOS. You can find the version number for 1Password for iOS in the Settings screen, just scroll down below the 'Recommend 1Password' option.

I've just spent 1.5 hours going through all the steps in the article on my Mac Pro, MacBook Pro, iPad and iPhone. Not fixed.

After signing out of iCloud on the MacBook Pro and signing back in again, is that I now can't use Find My Mac as it says I need a Recovery Partition.
Does that give you a clue?

I updated both iOS devices to latest 1Password version, 6.1.1
On both computers version 5.4.1, both using the menu bar extension.

I've spent about 2 hours going through all the steps in the knowledgebase article on fixing a non synching problem my Mac Pro, MacBook Pro, iPad and iPhone with iCloud and the problem is not fixed.

Both iOS devices running latest 1Password version, 6.1.1
On both computers version 5.4.1, both using the menu bar extension. No idea how to know what version the extension is.

Can someone from AgileBits please respond as my older thread is obviously not being seen, but it's kind of hard to run through all the knowledge base steps when I'm on the road and away from my office where the desktop computer is.

I just made sure both extensions are most recent, 4.4.4.

I wonder if this is this problem. If I go:
Sys Prefs > iCoud > Manage Storage there are two icons for 1Password. One is 293.5 KB, the other is 228 KB.
However I don't know what to do with that info.

That sounds like an issue with your computer and not with 1Password, I can't advise you much there.

    On both computers version 5.4.1

My apologies, I should have noticed this in your first post. Version 5.4.1 is the AgileBits Store version of 1Password. This version is not able to sync using iCloud. One of the links in the iCloud troubleshooting article mentions that 1Password must be purchased from the Mac App Store in order to take advantage of iCloud sync. You can read this article for more details: I do not see the option to sync with iCloud in 1Password for Mac.

I'd be happy to help you get set up with Dropbox sync, which is flexible and capable of handling multiple vaults ... and just as automatic as iCloud. :)

    Megan,
I'm not a fan of Dropbox. I've never found it particularly intuitive or user friendly, though iCloud is obviously not that easy either.

Can I upgrade 1Password from the Mac App Store (desktop version)? Do I have to pay for that?

If not, I guess I'm forced to use Dropbox. Question: my Mac Pro doesn't have a WiFi card, though it is connected to a WiFi router. Is Dropbox still a better solution than WiFi synching?

    Hi @Myname,

I've merged your two similar posts together so that we can keep this conversation all in one place, I hope you don't mind!

Can I upgrade 1Password from the Mac App Store (desktop version)?

I took a look in our back office records, and it appears that you purchased 1Password in 2014, which means you're a little bit outside of our 30-day refund period. Unfortunately, the Mac App Store does not provide us with a way to transfer licenses from the AgileBits Store to the Mac App Store, so if you do wish to use the Mac App Store version of 1Password, you will need to repurchase the app.

Question: my Mac Pro doesn't have a WiFi card, though it is connected to a WiFi router. Is Dropbox still a better solution than WiFi synching?

Personally, I love Dropbox. Once it's set up, you never have to worry about it - it just works. Also, a big benefit of Dropbox is the ability to sync Multiple Vaults. For example, if you want to share family Logins with a partner, parents or children (or some combination thereof) it's a simple matter of sharing a Dropbox folder and giving them access. The same goes for colleagues at work.

I can't say whether one sync solution is 'better' than another, it really comes down to personal preference, and really, we wouldn't offer a sync solution at all if we thought it was bad. ;)

If you'd like to use Wi-Fi sync, you'll need to enable Wi-Fi in System Prefs > Network.

I hope this helps, but we're here if you have any further questions or concerns.

I'm not seeing how to WiFi sync between my desktop Mac Pro and my laptop.

Also, as mentioned in OP, I've got at least one password on my desktop and one on my laptop that aren't synched. How do I make sure both these passwords are synched and not lost?

    Hi @Myname,

I'm not seeing how to WiFi sync between my desktop Mac Pro and my laptop.

Wi-Fi sync is meant to work between a single Mac and one or more iOS devices. It will not work directly between two Macs. Sorry for the confusion about that!

With your setup (two Macs and two iOS devices), the best/easiest way to sync 1Password would be to use Dropbox sync.

Alternately, if you really want to use Wi-Fi sync, you can set that up between one Mac and both iOS devices, and keep both Macs in sync with each other using the Folder sync option with another sync service. But as you can probably tell, that's more difficult to set up, and won't be as seamless as Dropbox sync.

Also, as mentioned in OP, I've got at least one password on my desktop and one on my laptop that aren't synched. How do I make sure both these passwords are synched and not lost?

First, you should make a new backup of your 1Password data on each Mac, just as a precaution. From the main 1Password app, go to File > Backup. That will open the Backup preferences and show all your backups, including the new one you just made.

The easiest way to sync/merge all your data so it's the same on both Macs and both iOS devices will be to use Dropbox sync. When you setup Dropbox sync, it will merge the data from each one and keep the newest copies of all your items. So you should end up with all your data in the same vault on all four devices, and they will stay in sync with each other (once Dropbox sync is set up, it will automatically work in the background so you don't need to worry about it).

Sorry for all the confusion, but I hope this helps! Please let us know if you need more help to set up one of the sync options - we're here for you. :)
