Feature Request: Loyalty card barcode support

The other day it struck me. I already own 1Password, why can't it store all of my loyalty cards with their barcodes for scanning instead of using another iOS app? In fact I have some cards in 1Password already because it's a secure location to keep them. If only the cards' barcodes were digitized (not an attached jpeg) so that scanners could read them properly. Would you please consider adding this functionality to 1Password - it seems a perfect fit.

@jprokos2: it's certainly something we'll consider, especially as we look into adding attachments in 1Password for iOS, which is something we'd really like to do in the future. That said, loyalty cards in particular you;d be a hard sell on their own, as the iOS Wallet is already really great for this. But we're not ruling it out. Thanks for letting us know you'd appreciate this feature! :)

    Brenty,

iOS Wallet unfortunately doesn't take all cards,,, it's hit and miss; Hard to remember which cards are stored in what app. What I have done temporarily, until this feature is added to 1 password :), is make a barcode online and saved it as a png attachment under the card in 1Password. A barcode field in 1password Memberships category would be perfect.

@jprokos2: You're not kidding! It can certainly be confusing.

Okay, you got me: that would be pretty cool. 1Password isn't quite as accessible as Wallet/Apple Pay (we can't get on the lock screen), but you're absolutely right that it could be a great fallback in those cases where Wallet isn't an option. I'll add your vote for this feature. Thanks so much for bringing this up! :)

There is an iOS app called CardStar that stores loyalty cards and does barcodes. It's definitely not intended to be highly secure but the look/feel/features are worth referencing. And loyalty cards are not particularly high value to me anyway. I'd probably keep mine in 1Password if it did what CardStar does but since it doesn't...

  • Thanks for the continued feedback on this request. I'd definitely like to see us expand the way in which we can help folks with various types of cards. Hopefully that is something our developers can look at for future inclusion. :)

I 'd definitely appreciate this feature as well. Unless there's something I'm missing, loyalty cards don't seem to actually work on Apple Wallet—maybe this is a US- or UK-only feature?— and although my bank's app offers a loyalty card scanner/digitiser, I stopped using it when I opened the app one day to find that it had updated and wiped all of my cards. Having scanned and digitised loyalty cards accessible via the 1Password mobile app, even with the process of logging in via my Master Password, would be really great :)

@rensa: Some loyalty cards can be stored in Apple's Wallet, but of course the merchant has to have the equipment to read them...so even here in Los Angeles, it's pretty rare. So I think in general we're having more of a hypothetical, blue-sky discussion about what may be possible in the future. Cheers! :chuffed:
