I just downloaded your app on my Mac. It did not give me an option. I can see dropbox but not iCloud. Please advise.

    Hi @aliamyn,

Did you by chance download 1Password for Mac from our AgileBits Download page? If you did that would certainly explain why you can't see an option to sync to iCloud. To access the required iCloud frameworks for iCloud Sync (they're called CloudKit) an app or application has to be obtained from one of Apple's stores. It means the AgileBits Store version, the one that can be downloaded from our site, cannot sync to iCloud while the version available in Apple's Mac App Store can. This iCloud FAQs (starting with iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite) will hopefully help with some of the possible questions you have. If you still have questions though please do ask and we'll do our best to answer.

You have to have purchased 1Password from the Mac App Store to use iCloud sync.

  • Yup. :+1:

Thanks. Yes I did download the versions from your website. Do I need to delete this? I hope not because I inputed all my passwords. Please advise what I need to do. Also how long is your trial period?

@aliamyn - The trial period for the AgileBits web store version is 30 days. As you now know, you cannot use iCloud for syncing, because Apple does not allow access to the required CloudKit technology, unless the application is sold by Apple from one of their App Stores. Dropbox is a great alternative to iCloud, though, and it has two advantages over ICloud. It permits you to sync more than just your Primary vault, and it will also let you share data with other users, such as family members or coworkers. iCloud allows neither.

If you decide to buy from Apple, follow the direction here to make the change from the AgileBits web version: Switching to the version of 1Password from the Mac App Store

    Hi @aliamyn,

Did hawkmoth's answer help at all? As you can see, if you want to you can migrate from the AgileBits Store version to the Mac App Store version. If you've been making use of our trial then all you need to do is purchase and download 1Password for Mac from Apple's Mac App Store and it will copy the vault across the first time you launch it.

If you have any other questions please don't hesitate to ask.

One last question....If I bought the app through the Apple Mac' store, can I still sync using dropbox or do I have to use iCloud? I actually like to sync via drop box but in the event if I need to later sync using iCloud, I would like to have that option to me. Please advise. Thanks.

You can certainly use Dropbox with the Mac App Store version of 1Password if you wish.

@aliamyn - Another thing for you to consider as you decide between the AgileBits and the Mac App Store versions is that when paid upgrades arrive, AgileBits will offer exiting licensees a discount on the cost of the upgrade. Apple does not have any way for developers to do such upgrade discounting. Everyone pays the same price, whether a new or existing user. In the long run, the AgileBits version will be cheaper, if you decide to get the paid upgrades. You are always free to continue without the upgrade, though.
