I'd really like the ability to create custom categories that allow me to form a custom template that is ready to be filled.

Examples of things I'd create: Automobiles, Insurance, Codes, Serial Numbers, prescriptions, frequent flyer info...

I know 1Password has a secure notes category, but why force us to use a free style note when we could customize a template for a common (yet unavailable) category that we would use? Secure notes are just too generic when it comes to entering certain info. They also don't offer any masking, which makes it a security risk if you want to keep prying eyes from looking over your shoulder.

I'm not saying to eliminate any of the pre-defined default categories. Just let us create custom ones as well.

    @Macorin,

    You can add new custom fields and sections to Secure Notes, making a template from a blank one, and then Duplicating it for future use. Add a Tag to indicate the Category, and whatever other customization you want, and then you have a nice way to manage your various cateogories.

    See Secure all the things in Secure Notes.

  • Thanks for the assist, MrC. Hopefully that addresses your needs, at least for now, @Macorin.

    If we can be of further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us.

    Thanks MrC. I've done that, but haven't found it the ideal workflow. It seems to be the best option for now, but I still hope 1Password continues to evolve in this area.

    Thanks Ben.

    I was searching for the very same solution! Custom notes is way to generic. I'm a visual person so creating custom categories is a MUST! I've yet to download the app for my Mac for this very reason. I've been with 1pass for a few years now. I hate to explore other options but the lack of categories and ability to create your own has left me searching. PLEASE, PLEASE 1Password add this option! I kbow several others are desperately seeking this feature as well!!!

    @haleywright ,

    Take a look at this post and the follow-up. You can make a Secure Note look like almost any category.

    Thanks @MrC I'm aware of this 'work around' however I like each category to be listed on one page with its specific icons. (Not the general 'Note') This helps me to organize my ever ending list. It's also not convenient for me. Thanks though.

    @haleywright ,

    Use Tags for this, and then you get your items grouped under the relevant tags. The reworking of 1Password to include arbitrary records affects all the apps, so it will likely take a while.

    Hi @haleywright,

    I’m sorry that the workaround available right now doesn’t quite fit your needs - I hope that MrC’s suggestion of tags helps a bit more. As he mentions, due to the way the 1Password database is constructed, it’s unfortunately not simple to add or change the current category offering. That being said, custom categories are a very popular feature request around here, and I would be happy to add your vote to the issue in our internal tracker. :)
