I accidentally deleted the app off my iPhone. I went to download out my purchased apps and can't seem to get it to work to access my passwords. Ive been using the app for years and have never encountered this problem.

@Wolf99 - when any application to s deleted from an iOS device, all of its data also are deleted with it. So getting your data back will depend on whether you have any form of backup.

    Let us know:

Is your entire iPhone backed up to iTunes or iCloud?

Do you make regular backups of 1Password to iTunes? That's a manual process you would have to initiate while the phone is attached to a desktop iTunes installation.

Do you have 1Password set to sync to Dropbox, iCloud, or another device by wifi? Do you have a desktop version 1Password that is synced to your phone?

If the answers to all of these are No, you will be faced with having to recreate your data from scratch. If any of these have Yes answers, let us know which, and we can go from there.

I do backup my phone to iCloud, but have never attempted or knew the 1 password app could be backed up. I only recently a couple months ago switched from the old 1password app tot he new one. With the old app i deleted accidentally multiple times and each time I added back it did so with all my data in tact.

  • Thanks, @Wolf99. For the future I'd highly recommend making regular backups of your 1Password data:

Creating and restoring 1Password backups in iTunes (iOS)

iCloud device backups have not proven to be super reliable at backing up 1Password app data, but since that is all we have to work with right now, please try restoring the device to the most recent backup before you had deleted 1Password:

Restore your device from an iCloud or iTunes backup

In addition, for the future, you may want to consider syncing your 1Password data, such that it exists in more than one place:

    Sync | 1Password for iOS

Note though that sync is not a replacement for backups!

Please let us know how it turns out.

Please help! I have never specifically backed up data from my 1Password app to iTunes, but I do regularly back up my phone. This morning, I updated my 1Password app, and everything was locking up in the app.... So I deleted the app and downloaded it again. I cannot get into my 1Password.

If I have backed up my phone to iTunes, but I have not specifically backed up my 1Password app data, does that mean all of my app data is gone? Or is there a way to get it back?

@lmoxyatl - You probably can get your data back if you restore your entire phone from your last backup before you deleted 1Password. Some users have found that to be a bit unreliable in bringing back the data, and if that happens to you, restore the phone a second time.

Because all data for any iOS application is deleted when the app is deleted, you should set up syncing to the cloud or another device, or back up the 1Password data itself to iTunes. Follow these directions to do that. And be sure to do it regularly.

@lmoxyatl: Indeed, if you'd backed up to iCloud recently (say, the night before), it's certainly worth a try. Unfortunately 1Password doesn't have any control over the iCloud/iTunes backup and restore process, and it isn't always reliable (often not restoring all apps and their data). This is why we include the backup feature in 1Password itself in the first place!

If the restore doesn't work, and you don't have your 1Password data elsewhere though, there isn't anything that can be done: your 1Password data is stored only where you put it, so AgileBits can't recover it for you I'm afraid. Please let us know how it turns out. I look forward to hearing back from you!
