Just installed on my Mac and it crashes on every open.

Just installed on my MacBook Pro with El Capitan version 10.11.2 (15C50). When I open 1Password, it does nothing and I have to force it to quit.

@BUBearsFan are you seeing any error message (possibly something like “1Password failed to connect to 1Password mini”)?

If not, you might try this:

    1. Drag the 1P app to the trash (don't use any app cleaner tool, which is likely to try to delete files you need to keep).
    2. Empty the trash and reboot.
    3. Re-download and re-install 1P.

So long as you follow those instructions that will not affect your 1P data. Note you should download from the place you originally bought 1P (the Mac App Store or the AgileBits store).

However, that may well not be the solution if you're seeing some error message so it's important you tell us the exact wording of any message you do see when you try to launch 1Password.

There is no error message. It just never opens so I force it to quit. I have already dragged it to the trash and reinstalled. I downloaded the trial from your site. Is this still beta software? If so, I'll wait as I don't feel comfortable trusting my passwords in a software that isn't more mature...

    @BUBearsFan:

    Far from it.

I downloaded the trial from your site.

This is a critical piece of information for us to help solve the problem. In that case please try the solution suggested in this AgileBits post. To be quite clear, the problem that fix addresses has affected a few users but not the majority of users, so it's a little difficult to know why the problem occurs in some cases but not others.

(By the way, I'm merely a volunteer here. I'm not employed by AgileBits.)

    Hi @BUBearsFan,

Hopefully the suggestion from Stephen helps to solve the problem! If not, please also try rebooting your Mac, and after it restarts, try again to launch the 1Password app.

If that doesn't work, can you please confirm the 1Password 5.app file is in the Applications folder on your Mac? If it is, what exactly do you see when you double-click that app? You said "it does nothing" but do you at least see the "1Password" menu at the top of the screen, next to the  menu? Do you see the 'Welcome' screen appear at all? Do you see the colorful spinning wheel in place of the mouse pointer? How long do you wait before forcing it to quit?

    Thanks! :)

Stephen's suggestion worked. before trying that, when I double clicked the icon in the App folder, I didn't see evidence that anything was happening. I should have checked the processes that was running. my first indication that there was a problem was the app hidemymac 3 saying 1password was stalled.mMaybe there is some conflict with hidemymac?

That's great news @BUBearsFan, I'm glad that took care of the problem!

I'm not familiar with "hidemymac", but I haven't heard any reports of conflicts between that app and 1Password. Hopefully this was just a one-time fluke, but if you run into more problems, please let us know - we're always happy to help. :)
