how to export from ios app to csv file

My vault is getting pretty large. I want to generate a plain csv file for backup so I don't have to worry about losing my data. I can find lots of examples about how to export to a csv file but none of the examples match my installation. I am guessing its not possible to export from IOS app. If that is the case, what app do I need to give me the ability to do an export to csv? windows? OSX? android?

@bookouri: 1Password for iOS cannot export files. And frankly, I wouldn't encourage you to export a CSV even if it were possible, as that would be completely unencrypted. Instead, check out 1Password's backup feature:

    Backup and restore (iOS)

And if you do need to export data for some reason, you can sync your data with 1Password for Mac or Windows. Both have a free trial and support CSV export. I hope this helps! :)

Thanks, I'll try the desktop versions. I understand the complications of the clear text files, but I can encrypt those. I just feel totally insulated from my data when i can't control my own backups and availability. For example, right now I need to change from icloud storage to dropbox and I have a terrible fear of losing my data in that process and not being able to recover it. I want a copy in my hands before I take that kind of risk. The nature of the data means it would be a disaster if I lost it.

    Hi @bookouri,

Glad to hear 1Password for Windows is working well for you! :)

I wanted to jump in and clarify a few things, in case it helps:

I just feel totally insulated from my data when i can't control my own backups and availability.

You can certainly control your own backups in 1Password for iOS, as explained in this knowledgebase article (the one from Brenty's post). Your 1Password data should also be backed up with the rest of the data on your iOS device if you make iCloud or iTunes backups - although we recommend backing up your 1Password data separately.

Also, the Windows version of 1Password (as well as the Mac version) will automatically make backups of your data, which are stored locally on the computer. If you backup your computer, that should include those 1Password backup files as well. You can copy those 1Password backup files somewhere for safe-keeping, if you'd like. We have information about that here: How do automatic backups work in 1Password?

For example, right now I need to change from icloud storage to dropbox and I have a terrible fear of losing my data in that process and not being able to recover it.

That shouldn't cause any problems at all for 1Password. If you're currently using the iCloud sync option in 1Password for iOS, that only makes a copy of your vault in your iCloud account - your 1Password data is stored locally on your iOS device(s). The data stored in iCloud is only used to sync changes between devices. Even if all the data in your iCloud account suddenly disappeared, you would still have all your 1Password data in the 1Password app. The same is true for Dropbox sync in 1Password for iOS. Even if you don't use any of the sync options at all, you'll have your data in 1Password on the iOS device.

I want a copy in my hands before I take that kind of risk. The nature of the data means it would be a disaster if I lost it.

As I mentioned above, you can make a backup of the 1Password data on your iOS device and save that backup to your computer. You'll also have backups created by the Windows version of 1Password, which are also saved locally on your computer, so they are very much in your hands. The backup files are encrypted copies of your 1Password data, so as long as you have those backups and remember your master password, you aren't risking anything and won't lose your data.

I think the backup files that 1Password makes are basically what you're looking for, but are much, much more secure than an exported CSV file.

Hopefully this helps, but if you have more questions about that or need anything else, please don't hesitate to let us know! :)

That's great to know. That changes the whole thing for me. As long as I can put my hands on an actual FILE that I can hold on to and backup I'll be happy.

    Thanks

  • Great! Thanks for the update bookouri. :) If we can be of further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us.
