New password works on Mac but not on iPhone

I've changed my mother’s password on her Mac but neither old nor new passwords work on her iPhone. I know I’m entering it correctly: I’ve copied it from her synced Notes & my own emails and pasted these previous passwords into both. The password works on her Mac but not on her iPhone. I’ve tried old ones and new ones on her phone: restoring her Mac’s previous versions / passwords & trying same. I've done the same trick of copying these passwords into both, by email and Notes.

  • I first did what worked for me (as I recall). After changing my Mac's, I had to open my iPhone's with the old one and change it separately. *

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) 2.2GHz
Mac 1Password version: 5.4
Mac extension version: 4.4.3
System version: 10.11.2

1Password Version: 6.1.2
Extension Version: ?
OS Version: iOS 9.2
Sync Type: can't open iOS 1P to re-enter

  • Hi @chidaca,

Thanks for taking the time to write in. I'm sorry to hear about the trouble with syncing the Master Password.

Indeed, that is how it should work. 1Password can't unlock with the new password until it has synced the change, and it can't sync until it is unlocked.

That said, if that is not working, but all of your mother's 1Password data exists on her Mac, I'd simply recommend uninstalling and reinstalling 1Password on iOS. This will erase the 1Password database on the iPhone and allow you to sync fresh from the Mac.

    I hope that helps!

Delete it! Why didn't I think of that? I'm an old troubleshooter myself. I wish I had asked a long time ago but I've been working on an incredibly long list of to-do's. (Excuses, excuses…. ) Muchly appreciated, Chandra

  • Chandra,

Glad to hear that worked out. :) If we can be of further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us.
