Why does iPhone app force WebKit? Why not allow using file in a iCloud folder?
Why does iPhone app force WebKit? Why not allow using file in a iCloud folder? The OSX app' lets the user choose any file in any location & I am wondering why the iOS app' does not approach this the same way. That way, we could get around the issue where the file does not show up in iCloud folders on the iMac computer after sync-ing was initially setup from iOS/iPhone. And it would work. Yes? No? Thanks for explanation. I am sure there is something that I do not know here, right, as you all would have though of this already. Jason

Good morning @sjobeck, and thanks for taking the time to write in. With the advent of iOS 8 and Mac OS X 10.10 we were able to leverage Apple's awesome new improvements to their iCloud framework. This new framework, called CloudKit, was such an incredible advance over the previous way of doing things that we moved our iCloud sync over to it completely. To that end, syncing your 1Password just by storing it in iCloud drive will not work between 1Password for iOS and 1Password for Mac.
Happily, with the launch of 1Password for Mac we were able to bring CloudKit sync back to the AgileBits Store version of 1Password. You can read more about this new version here: https://blog.agilebits.com/2016/01/12/1password-6-for-mac-is-here/

Understood. WebKit is an improvement. But does this mean that using a simple file in a simple folder had been intentionally blocked/disallowed. Users can not choose to sync to a file?
My company and family had been on 1p since the salad days. We use the app from your site and not the Store so we are jammed up here. Advice?
Thanks.

Hi Jason,
WebKit is a different thing -- I think you mean CloudKit? :)
iCloud Drive, which is the iCloud feature that shows up in your file system, does not have a mobile sync API. As such we couldn't use it for 1Password's iCloud sync. CloudKit is a separate iCloud feature / API.
Due to some recent developments we were able to bring CloudKit syncing to the latest version of 1Password for Mac from the AgileBits site:

Thanks!
