The app no longer accepts the PIN code that I set up. How can I reset/change the PIN code?

I set up a PIN code shortly after downloading the app to my iPhone. A few months later the app stopped accepting the PIN code I set up. So I have to put in a dummy PIN code which automatically reverts me to requesting the full passcode. I enter that and can get in. I want to find out how to reset my PIN. Thanks

    Hey, @ej_houston,

In order to reset the PIN you will need to enter the master password the same way you are doing now by either hitting cancel, if available, or by entering it incorrectly. This will cause 1Password to prompt for your Master Password instead. Once logged in you can change your PIN under Settings > Security > Change PIN.

Hope that allows you to use a PIN again.

  • Good morning @ej_houston, and thanks for taking the time to write in. @LssThanThree's advice is quite sound. As long as you can get in with your Master Password resetting your PIN code is as simple as going to the Security settings, turning the PIN code off, and then turning it back on again. Once you do that you will prompted to create a new PIN.

Do let us know if there's anything else we can do to help.

Thank you so much for your help. When I login and go to Settings/Security here are the options I see:

    Lock Now
    Lock on Exit
    Auto-Lock
    Touch ID
    1Password Watchtower
    Change Master Password
    Clear Clipboard
    Conceal Passwords

I don't see an option to change the PIN code or to turn it on/off. There's an option to turn on/off the PIN code but it's under Apple Watch which obviously doesn't help my situation.

Any thoughts based on this? I'm hesitant to mess with the Master Passcode bc that's the only thing between me and all my information which sadly I don't back up anywhere else.

  • Hi @ej_houston,

Did you recently enable Touch ID on your device? Or change to a Touch ID enabled device? 1Password will only offer Touch ID, not a PIN, on devices that are Touch ID enabled.

You may wish to review this support article:

Touch ID FAQs (1Password for iOS)

From our 1Password for iOS user guide on the subject:

If your device doesn't have Touch ID, you will see options to use your a PIN to unlock 1Password instead of your fingerprint.

    (emphasis added)

I hope that helps. Should you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to ask.

    Ben
