Are folders supposed to sync using Dropbox?

A folder that I create on my iPhone doesn't show up anywhere else. Folders I created on my Mac don't show up on my devices. Is sync local, or is sync just not working properly?

I deleted the folders that didn't sync and rebuilt them from scratch (they were small), and no sync appears to be working.

    Hi @jerryplotnick

Thanks for taking the time to write in. I'm sorry to hear sync doesn't appear to be working properly for you. Have you verified that it is syncing other items besides folders? E.x. If you add a Secure Note on your Mac does it appear on your iOS devices?

    Folders should indeed be syncing.

After restoring the folders fresh, I see that I still am getting only partial sync of folders to some of my devices. Manually syncing doesn't help. The gaps remain. As for whether other items aren't syncing, I think they are, but on at least one of my devices I had to force a manual sync. I though the issues with syncing when more than one vault is present on iOS were resolved with iOS version 6.2.

I have deleted all vaults except Primary from all devices and computers and now nothing is syncing automatically from anywhere to anywhere using Dropbox. I have to force a separate manual sync on each device or computer. Sync now seems to be worse rather than better than it was before 6.2 on iOS. Have you had any other similar reports?

    Hi @jerryplotnick
I am not aware of any other reports with a similar problem where sync has to be triggered manually. We have however an issue with syncing the contents of folders correctly - this will be addressed in an upcoming release.

Do I understand you correctly that you now have only one (primary) vault on all of your devices? So you don't see All Vaults anymore - correct?

    Hi Winnie,

I reverted to my pre-iOS 6.2 state in order to see if I could get sync to start working automatically again. So I have only the Primary Vault set up on each of my iOS devices, and you are correct: I no longer see All Vaults. I still have multiple vaults set up on my two Macs, since that was no problem before iOS 6.2. (My previous post was incorrect on this one point.)

Here is how I got to where I now am: After the release of iOS 6.2, I re-added multiple vaults to my devices. I understood from the support site that that the All -Vaults sync issues on iOS had been addressed. Everything seemed fine except for the syncing of folders. I could reliably sync for the first time to my devices with more than one vault set up even when I was in the All Vaults mode. Nevertheless, I began reverting to just the one vault on my devices to see if the folder problem would go away. I didn't expect things to get worse. What I discovered was that the folder problem remained but sync stopped working reliably. That is the state I'm now in.

I did some more testing: I set up logins on one computer and four devices. I'm now getting most things to sync, but some items didn't get synced to my iPhone 6S (from iPod Touch and from iPad). Other devices successfully received new logins from all other devices. So the pattern is very unclear.

  • Hi @jerryplotnick

I'm sorry to hear you're still having trouble getting everything to sync. I'd like to ask you to create some Diagnostics Reports, one from each of your devices.

    —Mac—
    https://support.1password.com/diagnostics/mac.html

    —iOS—
    https://support.1password.com/diagnostics/ios.html

Attach the Diagnostics Reports to an email message addressed to support+forum@agilebits.com.

Please do not post your Diagnostics Reports in the forums, but please do include a link to this thread in your email, along with your forum handle so that we can "connect the dots" when we see your Diagnostics Reports in our inbox.

You should receive an automated reply from our BitBot assistant with a Support ID number. Please post that number here so we can track down the reports and ensure that this is dealt with quickly. :)

Once we see the reports we should be able to better assist you. Thanks very much!

Thanks very much, Ben. I have done more testing this morning, and syncing has slowly come back to almost 100%, both with just one vault and then after adding secondary vaults to all my iOS devices. Sync was delayed by maybe 15 minutes on one of my devices, but syncing did happen even there on its own. By contrast, yesterday, I waited well over an hour and ended up syncing manually when it became clear nothing would happen across my devices and computers.

A per your instructions, I have gone ahead and sent diagnostics from two of my computers and two of my iOS devices, just in case they go back to yesterday and can help you see if there's a problem that may affect other users.

  • Thanks @jerryplotnick! Please do let us know if this problem returns. :)

    Ben
