All Vaults view is always the default.

I get the idea behind the new All Vaults view, but given the amount of items in my vaults and that I use each of them in different circumstances, I prefer to stick to the old single-vault view. The problem is I couldn't find a way to make my primary vault the default view when I open 1Password. It stays in the last selected view while 1P is open, but if I close and reopen (and not sure, but I think after locking/unlocking the vault) the "All Vaults" view is the default view again. It would be great if 1P could either have an option to disable the All Vaults view, set the primary vault as default view, or at least remembering the last chosen vault.

Regards

Would love to see that too. Not only for the Mac version, but for the iOS version too.
Currently my workaround is to set only my main vault to show up in All Vaults.

Thanks for the suggestion to work around the issue. I saw the option to exclude vaults from the "All Vaults" view but didn't think of keeping only the primary.

Seconded. I've got my own vault, and companies I've partnered with have shared their vaults with me. I'd like to default to the Primary Vault so that I don't accidentally log in with their creds to anything.

But, I do like the idea of being able to search All Vaults occasionally, so I don't want to do the workaround that Robs suggested.

  • Hey @juanii @Robs @shiny9!

There has been discussion about this quite a bit around the forums lately. This thread has some particularly good answers to the concern. While we could add an option for a default vault to display when the app is launched, it seems to defeat the purpose of All Vaults. If you'd prefer to not use All Vaults, you can use the workaround that Robs mentioned. Just click the 1Password menu and click Preferences, then switch to the All Vaults tab. From there, deselect every vault except for the one you'd like to be your default, which is likely your Primary. Now when the app opens, it will still open to All Vaults, but the only data in there will be from the single vault you chose.

We're still working on making the All Vaults functionality work well across the board. It can't fit everyone perfectly, but we're hoping to find a nice balance between functionality and settings. We don't want to add a bunch of options to the app, because that will clutter things up. We'd love to hear some ideas on why having All Vaults display by default doesn't work for you. That'll give us a better idea of what we can improve, or what can be done away with. We'd prefer not to jump to the conclusion that a defaults option will solve all the issues, but rather treat the issues themselves. :)

Well, some reasons not to use the All Vaults feature were given already: mine is that I don't like seeing a cluttered view of my items. I use my personal notebook at work and when I'm there, I mostly use my "work" vault where I have corporate credit cards, work-related logins, database passwords, etc. When I'm at home I use my primary vault where I have the personal version of the same items. It also clutters the context menu displayed when auto-filling logins, or worse, it adds a slightly uncomfortable step to the magical Command-\ shortcut, making me choose between options I shouldn't have to (I'll probably never log into my web hosting account at work, only the company's hosting account). shiny9's version of the same issue is the risk of logging into a service with wrong credentials.

I'm with you about not cluttering the preferences window with more options. Personally I would wipe out the "All Vaults" tab in that window ("All" should mean... all, right? :)) Still I'd go with a "remember my last choice" which would be right 99% of the time (maybe I have to switch vaults once or twice a day, but not almost every time I open 1P).

    Regards

  • @juanii Thank you so much for the details. I've made a note of them for future improvements. We really appreciate the details. I can see how it'd be useful in your particular situation. I personally just switch to my personal vault with 1 when I'm in personal mode. :sunglasses: An option could be useful for other scenarios though.

Yes, I do the same. It's just a little bit annoying because habits acquired for years are hard to change, even if it means using a shortcut. That's why I mentioned having to choose between more than one account when auto-filling a login, when I'm used to just press Command-\ and lose my sight until I assume the site logged me in. Eventually I could change my habits... sometimes... it's been like 5 years since it changed, but I still try Command-Control-O to open the Organizer window in Xcode.

  • @juanii I know what you mean. Hopefully we find a nice balance between things.
