Sharing a vault - is OPVault possible or is .agilekeychain required?
Hello,
I'm stumped. I'm running a test of a vault with two items in it to share with someone. I've followed the directions on the link below (#1) and when I get to step 4, it references the .agilekeychain format type. The format type that I am getting is .OPVault

I just found this information (#2) about the two types of data formats: OPVault and Agile Keychain. Clearly mine is defaulting to OPVault.
2: https://support.1password.com/switch-to-opvault/mac.html
Are the directions #1 specifying the .agilekeychain outdated? Or is this the only format type allowed for sharing a vault?
Or put another way, can I share a vault with the OPVault format? And if not, is it:
- less secure to use .agilekeychain?
- how do I convert from OPVault format to .agilekeychain (I think I saw a way to do this in #2)
Thank you,
Steven

Thanks for writing in. The documentation is out of date, and I'm going to file a bug to have that updated. Where you see references to agilekeychain, you should see opvault these days.
OPVault and AgileKeychain are both equivalent as far as what you can do with them goes. If you'd like a description of how the two differ, I'm happy to give you all of the nitty gritty details... but the reality is that as a user you should be able to treat the two as equivalent.
I hope this helps.

Awesome. Thank you for the response. All good with the vault share now.

my vaults are still agilekeychain. should I take the time to convert them to opvaults?
if I do, I should probably convert whole family as we have 1 or 2 shared vaults at this time, right?

It's up to you. There is no pressing reason to update .agilekeychain vaults to .opvault, but there is no harm in updating either. The primary difference is the way URLs are handled as unencrypted vs encrypted metadata. You can read more here https://blog.agilebits.com/2015/10/19/when-a-leak-isnt-a-leak/

Is there any issue having some vaults opvaults vs agilekeychain? I have 1password with 4 shared/secondary vaults. Does it matter if I convert 1 or 2 and not the others?
