Is there any control over the Apple App Store?

I have a license for 1Password which is stuck at 4.3.2. 1Password since that time has gone to v4.5, v5.0, v5.5, and is currently at v6.2.1. I would like to know, as I set the Account as a spare previously, if I can download other versions besides the current version. If or when necessary.

1Password Version: iOS 4.3.2

@wkleem: Apple doesn't make it possible to download old versions of apps from the App Store, so the only way you could install them is if you'd backed them up to iTunes previously and kept a copy on your computer to sync over later on.

Thanks @brenty. The new avatar is an improvement over "the drawn over the old version" avatar!

@brenty, Is there a some guide as to how to downgrade a newer version to an older version?

iTunes doesn't make the process look straightforward. I've got the older app backups on the desktop and in the Trash.

    Hi @wkleem,

I see that your device is running iOS 7.1.2; I think what you're seeing is a result the minimum operating system requirements put into place with later versions of the app. 1Password 5 needed iOS 8 and 1Password 6 requires iOS 9.

The App Store will allow you to install and run the last version of 1Password that works on the device you're using. For example, if you have an iPad running iOS 8, you'll be able to download 1Password 5.

We don't have a guide about downgrading 1Password for iOS, as it's not a question that comes up too frequently. I'll ask @brenty to pop back in and help you out with that, as I'm unfamiliar with the process of downgrading in iTunes :)

Thanks @Aleen. My initial assessment was incomplete as I have multiple Apple IDs and I actually have iOS 9.2 on some devices, iOS 7.1.2 on others.

  • Unfortunately there is no easy way to do this. The most consistently reproducible way I've heard of accomplishing it is:

    • Open iTunes on a computer and sign in with the Apple ID that you use on the device you want to install 1Password on.
    • Download 1Password from the App Store in iTunes
    • On the device go to the App Store and navigate to the Purchased tab (or Updates > Purchased on iPhone).
    • Locate 1Password and tap on the "cloud download" icon

That should give you the latest compatible version that device can run. That, and the latest version, are the only versions the App Store will allow you to download. It isn't possible to download version 3.7.1 at all, for example, because 3.7.2 will run on all the same devices 3.7.1 will.

    I hope that helps!

    Hi Ben

I am uncertain if this article will be of help but I've found a 3 year old link on backing up and restoring old iOS apps:

    Hello @wkleem,

I do curate older versions so that if needed I can test certain older ones. I've gotten a little more lax thanks to Wi-Fi Sync but still, I have a couple of versions that are tied to my Apple ID. The only thing is you have to remember to do this before you need it, that or access to a Time Machine that goes back a period of months if not longer.
