Chrome unresponsive after saving or auto filling on my macbook

Hi,

When i use the chrome add-on all websites in all tabs that are open become unresponsive, links and buttons requires a doubleclick to open and dropdown boxes are almost impossible to open. sometimes the tabs also freeze for a few seconds after login in.
It requires a restart of chrome to get it back to normal.

Kind regards,

Jeroen

That's a very strange situation, @Stageconcepts. Sorry for the trouble you're having. Do I understand correctly that you do not have this problem when 1Password's Chrome extension is not enabled?

Could you also let us know how you're invoking 1Password's form filling? The most common way is to navigate to the login page, click the 1Password button in the Chrome toolbar, and then choose the Login from the list. Does this cause the same issue?

Do you see the same situation in Safari?

If you continue to have this trouble, I'd like to ask you to create a Diagnostics Report from your Mac:

    https://support.1password.com/diagnostics/mac.html

Attach the Diagnostics Report to an email message addressed to support+forum@agilebits.com.

Please do not post your Diagnostics Report in the forums, but please do include a link to this thread in your email, along with your forum handle so that we can "connect the dots" when we see your Diagnostics Report in our inbox.

You should receive an automated reply from our BitBot assistant with a Support ID number. Please post that number here so we can track down the report and ensure that it is dealt with quickly. :)

Once we see the report we should be able to better assist you. Thanks very much!

I am experiencing something very similar since I've started using 1Password. Like the original poster, when I use the autofill feature on my Mac and Chrome (command-backslash), often times (not always) clicks are not registered. It will take me having to repeatedly click on a text box, link, button, etc. for the click to register. It's actually quite infuriating!

I am using Chrome, the Chrome extension, the mini helper deal, etc. It does not happen with Safari.

    Hi @sdjaime,

Can you send us in a diagnostic report please using the instructions Jamie provided above. Neither of us have seen this in Chrome before and while I'm not a major user of that browser (I'm more a Safari person myself at the moment) I do test in Chrome and Jamie does use Chrome too. I've not seen that behaviour before so it's unusual to say the least.

@Stageconcepts and @sdjaime Can you let us know if this issue is reproducible? Does it seem to happen on any sites in particular or is it more widespread than that? Like, @littlebobbytables said, we haven't heard of this before, so it will be helpful for us to have just a little more detail to know at what scope we should start investigating the problem.

    Hi there,

Sorry for the delay, @jxpx777. So I am finding that this issue happens more often than not when either saving a password or using Command-\ to fill a password. And it only happens with Chrome. Not sure if I can provide you with any additional information, but I'm happy to test certain scenarios, if you'd like to propose some.

    Thanks.

@sdjaime Nothing is jumping out to me from the diagnostics report either… The first thing I would try is a fresh Chrome profile and only install 1Password there and see if you still have the issue?

I also noticed you have a couple of other Chrome profiles without 1Password installed. Does this issue ever show up when using multiple Chrome profiles or Incognito windows? I recently fixed an issue with this situation that is on its way to our next beta, so I thought it worth asking about.

    Thanks!

I'm having this issue as well. I do have the Chrome extension installed, and this happens with relative frequency when I generate passwords or fill from either Mini or from the extension. The tab of the site I've filled into becomes unresponsive until I drag the tab to it's own window, which leads me to believe that this is related to the extension. Chrome does not report an error, but all interactive elements on the page cease to work, not just form fields - every interactive element that requires user input, including links. It does not appear to be halting JavaScript execution on the page, as timed elements like polling calls will continue to work. I'm disabling the extension for the day today to see if it's the culprit and will report back my findings.

    Application version is 6.1 (610005)
    Extension version is 4.5.5.3

Thanks, @zstepek. Do let us know what you find. So far, we have been unable to reproduce this issue here, so if you can help provide more insight that will be greatly appreciated.

    Hey @jxpx777-

We've had several people here at our office experience this issue as well. It seems to happen randomly, but was able to replicate it frequently for a period of time - but now can't replicate it the same way. Here's a gif of how I replicated it for a bit:

Each click after hitting "Not Now" requires me to double click - until I remove the plugin.

I replicated it at least 5-6 times in this manner - but now I cannot.

Thanks for that gif, @halldmatthew! It actually contains a piece of information I wasn't previously considering. I see you have Chrome's password saving enabled as well as 1Password. I'd be curious to know if others in this thread have that in common. (@zstepek? @sdjaime? @Stageconcepts?) Could you try the same process that should cause the problem with Chrome's password saving disabled and see if it is still a problem?

@jxpx777 I'll give it a shot and see if this helps. There's a couple other people here at our office that have the same issue, and I'll have them try that as well.

That will be great. Thanks! I look forward to hearing how it goes.

Did any of you fix this issue? I'm still experiencing it in Chrome (although not every time). I can currently only work around it by logging in to 1Password, close the browser window and open the window again.

@rhandersen - I ended up disabling Chrome's password saving functionality and that seemed to fix the issue for me.

That's interesting, @halldmatthew. I would be interested to see if this is also a common point for other folks experiencing this issue.

I've been experiencing this issue in Chrome as well (been a couple of months).

    Few observations.

    1. I've Chrome password functionality turned on.
    2. I've 1password extension for Chrome installed.
    3. This usually happens when I cancel Chrome's own password prompt.
    4. Once this happens, I am unable to click any links on the page.
    5. Once this happens, I am able to double click links to register a single click.
    6. Sometimes clicking Key or Star in the address bar fixes this.
    7. At other times, I can close the tab and open new tab with the same URL to fix it.
    8. Reloading tab usually doesn't help.

Also, I am using multiple profiles in Chrome. This happens for profiles with 1password extension installed.

@umairsiddique: First of all, thank you so much for that detailed information! I spent some time testing this and wasn't able to reproduce it, but I do have a few questions that might help narrow it down so perhaps we can:

    1. When you get the Chrome login save, are you getting 1Password's as well?
    2. One thing I noticed is that 1Password's autosave prompt seems to come up over Chrome's. Are you interacting with 1Password's first before you close Chrome's?
    3. Do you necessarily have multiple profiles/persons in use when this happens? Or does it happen even if you're only using a single profile at that time?
    4. Could you give an example URL where this happens? I wonder if there may be some scripting interaction on the page itself, since it doesn't sound like it happens all the time.
    5. Since all extensions and page scripts are contained within a single process for each tab or window, it makes sense that reloading might not make a difference but creating a new window/tab does. Just to be absolutely clear, does this happen only with profiles where you've installed 1Password? What other extensions are installed when this happens?

    Thanks in advance! :)

    Hi @Stageconcepts, @sdjaime, @umairsiddique,

Early feedback does seem to strongly indicate the issue is related to Chrome's password manager. With one report here and another in email it seems disabling Chrome's password manager resolves it and I'm wondering, do you have it enabled? You can check the status and disable it in Chrome's settings using the following URL

    chrome://settings/search#passwords%20and%20forms

We'd love to hear if this makes a difference.

I've also been having this issue for the last few months, on 2 different MacBooks. I haven't seen anyone mention this (Apologies if they did and I missed it!) but if you have multiple spaces open, use Ctrl - left / right to move away from the workspace with Chrome and then move back again. On all occasions that I've done this I've found that it fixes the issue with needing to double click everything / Chrome seeming unresponsive.

I haven't heard that approach either. Thank you! Others were able to get it working by interacting with the menu bar, or by disabling Chrome's password manager. Cheers! :)
