Sync from Dropbox is very very slow

Hello,

Last weekend I got a new phone and reinstalled my apps which included 1Password.

I configured it to sync from my vault in Dropbox on Sunday. I have about 600 items in my vault and by today, Friday, 1Password has only managed to get 62 items synced. This is extremely slow and is rendering the application unusable as I am not able to access all my passwords.

I have seen that other people have had this issue, but no obvious solution. I am happy to run diagnostics but need to know how to do it.

Thanks, Russell

  • Hello Russell, and welcome to the forums!

62 items synced over almost a week is indeed terribly slow. This should not be the case at all.

With Dropbox there are a few things we need to watch out for. For one thing, it can rate limit 1Password at times. Normally this only kicks in after a few hundred items, but it's possible other things were going on that caused Dropbox to be more aggressive with its rate limiter.

Given it's only been 62 items, what I assume has happened is you setup Dropbox and then left 1Password, hoping all the syncing would happen in the background. We're at the mercy of the operating system in this situation so 1Password could easily have been killed and thereby preventing the sync. Something like this combined with Dropbox rate limiting could be the cause.

To test this theory, can you open 1Password, unlock, and leave 1Password open for a few minutes to see if any additional items come down? If your other items don't appear, please force the sync to start by pulling down on one of the list views; that should trigger syncing and you should see a spinner appear.

If none of this seems to help, it's time to see your logs :) You can create a diagnostics report by following these instructions:

    https://support.1password.com/diagnostics/android.html

Be sure to include a short message about your issue, along with your forum name so we can connect the dots.

I'm looking forward to seeing how this turns out! Please keep us updated :)

Thanks for this. Sorry it has taken me a while to reply, I had assumed I would get an email when someone replied, but that must in the settings I have not configured :-).

I have tried as you have suggested a few times. When I tell it to sync it downloads a couple of items and then just sits there thinking it is syncing and nothing happens. I have tried shutting it down and rebooting the phone and then I can get a few more in. As of today it has downloaded 73 items.

I will go through creating a diagnostics report.

Hi @russellseymour. Thanks for the update. It sounds like you may have a large number of tombstones in your vault, which may be what's causing sync to hang.

Are you syncing with any other devices? If so, I'd like to ask you to create some Diagnostics Reports from each of your devices:

    ---Android---
    https://support.1password.com/diagnostics/android.html

    ---Mac---
    https://support.1password.com/diagnostics/mac.html

    --Windows--
    https://support.1password.com/diagnostics/win.html

    --iOS--
    https://support.1password.com/diagnostics/ios.html

Then attach the entire file to an email to us: support+android@agilebits.com

Please do not post your Diagnostics Report in the forums, but please do include a link to this thread in your email, along with your forum handle so that we can "connect the dots" when we see your Diagnostics Report in our inbox.

A short note here once you've sent the Report in will help us to keep an eye out for it. :)

Once we see the report we should be able to better assist you. Thanks in advance!

    peri,

Thanks for this. I have just submitted the diagnostics report from a Windows machine that is not experiencing any issues at all.

    Thanks, Russell

  • Thanks! I'll look it up and get back to you via email. :)
