How do I get my iPad to recognize my Mac for first time wi-fi sync of primary vault?
I am trying to set up iPassword on my iPad for the first time. I followed the directions on the support.1Password.com webpage. I opened the iPassword program on my Mac, selected wi-fi server under Preferences, and checked Run a Wi-fi server from this Mac to sync with iOS devices. Under vaults there is a check in the box for Primary, though it appears to be grey/dithered. On my iPad I opened the app, from the Welcome screen I selected Sync existing vault, the next screen brings up syncing options and I selected Sync using Wi-Fi, which brings up a Wi-Fi Sync screen but my Mac does not appear as an option. The only option is Refresh List but clicking on that does nothing.
I've tried turning Wi-Fi off and on on both devices, resetting both devices, uninstalling and re-installing the app on the iPad--al to no avail.
Maybe I am mistaken, maybe the program is not meant to bring over the primary vault from my Mac. Do I have to create a new vault on the iPad instead? That would mean I would have different passwords for the same sites, right? That would seem cumbersome but I guess iPassword could handle it. All I would have to do is remember two master passwords instead of one, correct?
Or is the better alternative to sync with Dropbox? If so, how do I move my primary vault on my Mac to Dropbox for syncing?
I've spent several days trying to get this to work so I'm hoping the forum can help. I'll check for responses tonight but I thank the forum gurus in advance.

Hi @Anaco_angler,
If you've been fighting for days then I'm glad you've reached out to us.
Let's first start with deciding on the preferred sync method before possibly wasting lots of time looking into Wi-Fi Sync.
- Wi-Fi Sync only allows you to sync a single Mac with one or more mobile devices. They must be on the same local network to see each other and 1Password must be unlocked on both devices for syncing to occur. Wi-Fi Sync is for those people that really don't like the idea of their vault being stored on a cloud service.
- Dropbox or iCloud are two cloud services. iCloud currently allows multiple Macs and iOS devices to sync while Dropbox allows Macs, Windows, iOS and Android devices to sync. Dropbox is a third party service but comes with excellent cross-platform compatibility. Using a cloud service for syncing means the devices sync whenever they have access to the internet. As way of example, you change an important password on your Mac but forget to sync your iPhone straight away before you head somewhere. If you sync via Wi-Fi this would mean you don't have access to the password until you physically return to where the Mac is and have the two sync. With Dropbox or iCloud the new password would be sent to the cloud service right away and then when you next used 1Password for iOS, as long as it has internet access it would pick up the new password and be accessible straight away.
Now some people are very against cloud services holding personal or sensitive data so they simply will not use either Dropbox or iCloud. Some people have a preference of one cloud service over the other. The choice does ultimately come down to which you feel most comfortable with. Whichever that is we will work with you to get it going. If that's Wi-Fi Sync we'll figure it out, if it's Dropbox or iCloud then we'll show you how to set that sync up too.
Just to clarify, we do indeed have some gurus here that know 1Password very well but we (as in AgileBits) do actively monitor the forums and respond to every query too so when you reach out for assistance in the forums you're reaching out to the creators of 1Password
We'll wait to hear back from you and if you have any questions about anything I've written please do ask.

littlebobbytables, thank you for the detailed response. I had assumed wi-fi would be the easiest and preferred sync method. For some reason it didn't work so I think I have accomplished the iCloud sync procedure from my MacBook Air to my iPad and iPhone. I'm not sure how to use the app on the iOS devices yet but I'm confident I can figure it out from the Support documentation available.
Before I go further, however, I do have one question: once I get set up on my devices I want to download 1Password to my wife's MacBook Air and eventually to her iOS devices. Since she has her own Apple ID, even though we've activated Family Sharing, should she create her own Master Password on her Mac and then start adding to her own primary vault with passwords to accounts she logs into? In other words, I would not sync my primary vault to her Mac and iOS devices, correct? We do visit some of the same websites but usually with different login id's. I think I answered my own question--create her own master password etc--but I want to be sure.
As always, thank you and the forum for support.0 -
Yes, that sounds correct. :) If you want to share some, but not all, of your passwords with your wife, you may want to check out our 1Password for Families service:
