Could we have a plain text field for additional info?

I have posted this as part of a Mac version thread comment but posted here for it to head up its own iOS thread.

Personally, for me, hoping that 1Password should automate everything related to the demands of password and associated code management is overkill in development terms. I don't mind entering a 'memorable word' or counting letters in that word and entering themmanually. Surely it's forgetting these 'memorable words' for a particular account that is the problem? A much simpler solution to implement I would have thought is to provide something like an 'additional info' text field to hold this information. Would this be possible? Aside from anything else, some sites (like NatWest in the UK) are even more complicated and in this case has two separate codes that have to be entered, one in its entirety and the second where you have to enter just three randomly requested characters from a nine character code.

Any thoughts?

    Hello @Eeyore,

There's a distinct possibility that 1Password can do what you want it to, what I would like to know is where do you do most of your editing? I ask as you've posted in both the Mac and iOS forums so it may be you use 1Password for Mac and iOS like myself. While 1Password for iOS can be used for editing I still prefer to do most of mine on my Mac with a keyboard. So I'd like to ensure that if we go through the various steps we pick the preferred platform for you.

Basically though you can add and edit custom sections/fields on both platforms and you can set the type of the field from anything as simple as a text field to a password field, email address or telephone. There is also the note field that every item in your vault has which is a plain text field for whatever you want it to be. I used to add all sorts of information in the note field until we got custom fields and for various reasons I make great use of them. I think we can show you a bunch of things that might allow you to create an item in the way you want

Thanks for your very helpful reply. I am only using the iOS version and wasn't aware there were so many differences to the OS-X version. For some reason my installs are behaving very strangely. To save me entering all the details again, are you able to check out my other recent post on the iOS forum and offer some suggestions as to what might be wrong?

  • Thanks, @Eeyore. It appears @Winnie has just replied to your other thread.
