Feature Request: Use TouchID on iPhone to unlock container on Windows, Mac, etc.

Hi Guys,

first of all - great product! I love it especially on my iPhone. On PC, it's a little annoying to insert the passcode of my container (strong password means long typing, errors, etc.)

Wouldn't it be nice, if I could use Touch ID on my mobile if my container on my windows computer needs to be unlocked?
I could then use a much more secure passcode for the container.

Refer to the push the facebook-app send if two-factor verification is enabled: it pushes a notification to open the app, where I can see the 6digit auth-code to enter on my pc.

I could imagine the following:

  • I want to open my container on my windows machine/mac (or even ipad w/o Touch ID)
  • 1Password on my phone sends a push that someone wants to open my container (could be a "trusted device" to ensure security).
  • 1Password opens and asks me to verify with touch id
  • once I put my finger on the sensor, the app sends a short notice to my pc to open the container

Result: fast and secure opening of containers protected with a strong password

Any ideas, if this could be possible?

Best,
Philipp

@pops1501: It's definitely something we'd like to be able to do in the future. Currently there isn't a secure or reliable way for Touch ID to be used across devices, but who knows what may be possible in the future. Frankly, I'm surprised that Apple hasn't done something similar with Continuity/Handoff on iOS and OS X yet, but perhaps something like that could turn up at WWDC later this year! Thanks for the suggestion. :)
