I am using 1P v6.0.2 on my iMac under El Capitan. But I can't sync to my iPad Air 1P v4.0.4. Help!

Everything is good on the iMac, but my credit cards are mostly wrong on the iPad Air. I just tried to install the 1P Safari extension but I get an error message that it can't be installed. I seem unable to sync with the iPad.

1Password Version: 6.0.2
Extension Version: 4.5.2
OS Version: 10.11.3
Sync Type: iCloud (I think)

@paulbear7: Unfortunately without some basic information it's hard to say what might be going wrong and how we might right it! Please tell me all OS, 1Password, and device versions you're using, the exact steps you're taking, and what is (or is not) happening the way you expect so we can figure out the best plan of action.

The more information you can give, the better. For instance, have you checked your sync settings on the iPad? it may be that you simply need to enable iCloud there. Please let me know what you find. Thanks in advance! :)

Brenty- iCloud is enabled on the iPad for 1P sync. IPad 1P v is 4.4; iPad v is 9.2.1. OS is 10.11.3. When I open 1P on the iPad, the credit cards are all messed up. Some have been cancelled; some have incorrect expiry dates. I haven't even tried to analyze the other data, but, so far, 1P is a total loss on this device. Gave I given you the info you requested? Thanks for your interest.

    Hi @paulbear7

thanks for giving us additional information about your system. The latest version of 1Password running you iOS 9.2.1 would be 1Password for iOS 6.2.2 - could you please double check which version you are running. You will find the version number in Settings underneath "Recommend 1Password". If you are really running version 4.4 please check the updates in the App Store app and update 1Password to the latest version.

I'd also like you to check the sync settings. Could you tell me what you see under Setting > Sync? Does any of your vaults indicate that they are syncing?

    Thanks
    Winnie

    Hi Winnie -

Yes, it is iOS v 6..2.2, per the line under the "recommend 1Password" heading. I really don't know where the 4.4 came from.
Under Sync in the 1P settings, the vault is shown as "primary" and the line extends to "iCloud". If I hit "sync now" the icon in the left sidebar make a partial turn then stops, and i see no differences. The credit card list doesn't update.

  • Thanks, @paulbear7.

In 1Password on the Mac under 1Password > Preferences > Sync what do you see?

Just the word "none". I can choose iCloud. Should I? Is the solution as easy as this?

  • I believe it may be, yes. ;)

But first I'd recommend making backups. 1Password is pretty good about determining which items are newer when merging datasets but it is possible for it to overwrite "the one you want" with "the one you don't want," so it is never a bad idea to make a backup.

Ben - I just went ahead and did it and it synced perfectly. I figured Time Machine would take care of the backup. Many thanks for your expertise. Now I can stop cussing the app.

  • Perfect! Glad to hear it worked out. And yes, Time Machine is a great tool to have handy. :) FWIW though, it doesn't backup your 1Password data on iOS.

If we can be of further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us.
