Warning: Massive problems after migration to .opvault format
Hi,
I was part of several discussions the last couple of days around massive problems with both the Mac and the iOS app. Symptoms were:
- Freezes and general unresponsiveness in the iOS app after or during sync processes with Dropbox
- Data from records have disappeared, e.g. all the attached pictures and pdf files are gone
- Records on the Mac side have been renamed to "Unnamed", losing more or less all their data
- Sync takes forever on iOS so that the app has to be force-quit which may have fostered data losses and inconsistencies
All this happened to me only after I had migrated my 1P sync setup from the older .agilekeychain format to the somewhat more secure .opvault format. After having discovered yesterday evening that all images have disappeared from my records (from all platforms), I was fed up with this and migrated back to the .agilekeychain format.
Result: No issues at all, everything runs smoothly. So I really assume that .opvault format and Dropbox sync are just not compatible with each other for some reason only the guys at AgileBits can find out.
After this frustrating and time-consuming experience I'll wait until several users have done this migration without losing any data. Don't get me wrong: The support from the AgileBits staff is great, but software quality, especially with syncing which is key feature, falls short of this performance.
(I had originally done the migration to .opvault because I was hoping to resolve an issue with Sync on the iOS platform: Sync did not seem to happen automatically or in the background, even though I allowed 1P to sync in the background. So whenever I had changed something on the Mac side and opened the iOS app, I had to manually initiate a Sync to that the changes would be reflected. This is still the case, but is by far less annoying than the .opvault-related bugs.)
Regards
Jochen

@jochenneese: That does sound really frustrating. I'm sorry you've had so much trouble with 1Password! :(
I can't speak for everyone, but I know at least myself and several others here have been using OPVault for a while. We've run into issues from time to time, and so have other users, but nothing like you're describing. That sounds really terrible.
Normally at this point I'd beg you for diagnostics so we can investigate, but from your description it seems like you've already worked around it by creating a new(?) AgileKeychain...and my guess is that this was the real fix: it sounds like you may have had an very old vault in the first place (thus the sync issues), and perhaps suffered some additional data corruption during or after the OPVault conversion. Of course there's no way to know for certain, but I appreciate you taking the time to bring all of this up so we can keep an eye out for that. I will say though that the freezing is a known issue that the development team is working on currently.
Again, I'm sorry you went through all of that, but I'm glad to hear that things seem to be in much better shape now. Be sure to reach out if you need anything else, or if you remember other details that may be relevant. :pirate:
