how to sync an older version backup to 1pw 6

i had an older version (not sure which one, prob a few years old) of 1password on my phone (never on my mac). ive backed up and restored multiple times over wifi/the web with no issues. recently the iphone app would crash whenever i hit 'back' to get to the main screen within the app. i decided to backup my data, delete the app, and restore from the app store. the app is now completely different. there is no backup/restore button under settings/sync as there was before. when i go into 'sync' i can go to 'sync using wifi'. it then tells me to open 1password for mac. so i downloaded the app to my mac. in the setup i can click 'already have 1pw data somewhere else?' it asks 'where is your data?' i choose 'this mac'. it asks me to choose a file and i try to open my backup file and nothing happens. it wont open. presumably it doesnt recognize the file. the file is extension .1ptbackup. i have ios 9.2 on my iphone and 10.11.3 on my mac.

please help me get my data!

thanks,

JA

  • Hi JA ( @judahaskew ),

Sorry for the confusion! This process does not require 1Password for Mac at all, and does not use WiFi sync. You can find instructions on importing 1Password 3 for iOS backups (.1ptbackup files) into 1Password 6 for iOS here:

How do I upgrade from 1Password 3 on iOS?

Since you already have a backup you can skip down to the "rename your 1Password 3 backup" heading.

    Thanks!
