Hi If I go to a website, 1pass never autofills the fields. I have to go up to the toolbar icon and select the site. Any ideas?

1password 4.5.3

@Frenle IT Services please tell us:

    • What version of 1P for Mac you are using (the link will tell you how to find that information)
    • How you are trying to fill an item in your browser. (For example, are you clicking on open and fill in 1Password, or are you going first to the relevant page in your browser and then using the ⌘\ shortcut?)

  • Hi @Frenle IT Services,

You mentioned 1Password 4.5.3, but I suspect you meant 1Password Safari Extension 4.5.3. Can you tell us which version of 1Password itself that you're using?

Can you also tell us what you mean by "autofill"? This may sound like a silly question, but I ask because what most people call "autofill" is a feature that 1Password has actually never supported. Most people mean "autofill" in the sense that you go to a page, and without doing anything explicit, the login and password would get entered for you on the page. 1Password does not do that. We ask that the user give us explicit permission (via a click, or the keyboard shortcut). Most users who think they've seen 1Password perform autofill have actually been experiencing Safari's autofill feature.

Thanks! I'm new here, from Lastpass, so didn't realize the difference. (looks like I also have created two forum accounts lol)

    Hi @Atari,

No problem - the term "autofill" can certainly be a bit confusing, as it's often used to mean different things by different people & apps. That's why Rick asked - so we can make sure we understand the actual question and avoid more confusion. :)

So, to reiterate what Rick said, 1Password will only fill your data when you explicitly tell it to do so (for example, by opening a Login item from the main 1Password app, by selecting the Login item from the 1Password browser extension, or by using the ⌘\ keyboard shortcut in the browser). Because sensitive data is involved, we never assume the user just wants us to do something automatically, so we leave the control in the user's hands. We also explain a bit more about this here: If 1Password doesn’t automatically fill your information when you visit a website

If you have more questions about that or need anything else, just let us know - we're always happy to help! :)
