How do I get out of settings on an iPad Pro?

Today I have tried everything I can think of on my iPad Pro to get out of settings and enter data. No such problem on my iPhone where there are buttons on the bottom of the screen.

I finally figured it out--I must touch the file cabinet icon on the left.
