Problem trying to restore Pro purchase with a new iPad
Hello!
I have been a 1Password customer since version 1, and have purchased Pro upgrades and iOS version upgrades ever since, along with the Mac version with Family upgrades (note: not the Family online account subscription version).
This is working fine on the iPhone, and the Pro features are unlocked, so I can use it with my Apple Watch fine though my iPhone (iPhone 6).
However I have purchased a new iPad Pro and although I can sync with my vault (on DropBox) it will not let me Restore Purchase to the Pro version on the iPad.
Note that I purchased 1Password originally using an old AppleID but I am now using a newer AppleID as I had multiple Apple accounts. Also please note that to allow all my old purchases to be available under my new AppleID I made the old account an Apple Family sharing member with the new account as the parent.
I have tried logging out of both the iTunes store and the iCloud account on the iPad, and re-logging in with the old AppleID account but this has still not enabled me to Restore my Pro Purchase.
Do you have any other ideas that I can try to restore Pro on my iPad?
Many thanks in advance,
Simon

Hi Simon ( @paxdruid ),
Thanks for taking the time to write in! I wish I had better news. In-app purchases, such as 1Password's Pro features, cannot be shared by Apple's Family Sharing. You can see the types of purchases that can be shared here:
What types of content can I share with Family Sharing? - Apple Support
The only two ways to unlock 1Password's Pro features are either to:
A. Install 1Password using the Apple ID that has the Pro features purchase on it or
B. Sign into a 1Password for Families or 1Password for Teams accountI wish there were a better answer here, but unfortunately it is not possible to transfer purchases from one Apple ID to another or to share in-app purchases via Family Sharing.
My apologies.

Hi Ben, and thanks for your speedy reply.
As I mentioned though I did attempt to re-login my iPad with the original iTunes account, then tried to restore the purchase again. This didn't work, with the same result.
However if it is not permissible to use the Pro version through a Family Shared account (despite being a long-term user and having paid for multiple upgrades and versions, both iOS and Mac) then I will understand and re-purchase the Pro upgrade.
Although as I had also mentioned, I am indeed already using the Pro unlocked version on my iPhone, which is using the parent Family Shared account, so this must be possible somehow to restore the Pro version in the same manner on the iPad.
Taking the Families or Teams subscription route is not my preferred option, as I am not a fan of subscription-based systems, and have no real need or desire at this time to share my password lists with family members.
Best regards,

The account that matters is the one you are logged into when you install 1Password. Unfortunately simply logging into another account after installing 1Password is not enough.

We had hoped when Apple originally announced Family Sharing that it would apply to in-app purchases as well, but later found that was not the case.

That would work if you had installed the 1Password app using the original Apple ID.

Understood. It isn't for everyone. But there are a lot of great features there that we've developed based on customer feedback.

Thank you Ben, that was the magic I needed!
I removed 1Password, then logged into the original AppleID account, and re-downloaded 1Password again. Didn't even need to restore the purchase! Back to normal again, and I can continue to enjoy your marvellous product.
Last question: please let me know if it is against AgileBits policy for me to be using the pro features through a Family Shared Apple ID account. If so, then I will re-purchase the Pro version. Bear in mind that I use my "Family Shared AppleID" purely to access my past purchases on the old AppleID (Apple has no facility to transfer purchases to a new AppleID), and not to share the product with my family (I already have the 1Password Family Mac version for that purpose).
Otherwise, thanks for all your help.

Hi @paxdruid,
All you're doing right now is having to jump through an extra few hoops to make use the of purchase that you made. We wish you didn't have to do that and you're definitely not doing anything wrong. It's just a shame you have to do this at all.
Just to say, because I haven't been in your position before I don't know what happens when there is an update to 1Password for iOS. You may need to log back into the old account or the fact that the basic version is available through the Family Sharing may be enough without it affecting the Pro features. Just something to be aware of if you see any odd behaviour at all.
