What if I'm forced to unlock 1Password

I know it's unlikely but the risk could increase over time as muggers become more savvy about security systems on their own phones. One solution would be to store some plausible dummy data accessible by entering an alternative password. It wouldn't stop a determined thief - they could force you to an ATM, or notice other apps linked to your finances on your phone but it might distract a mugger in a hurry or limit the damage. Perhaps more significantly, it would help the victim to feel they were able to do something to help foil their assailant!

Just read this - 'Another security measure that is effective in alerting the police of an ATM robbery are the use of software such as Zi-Cubed’s SafetyPIN product. The SafetyPIN system, when implemented at a bank, will allow a customer who may be in the middle of a robbery to discreetly alert the police by using a secondary PIN. The alternate PIN will still authorize the ATM to dispense cash, but the system will alert the police and direct them to the ATM center where the suspect robbery is occurring'

  • Hi @andypierce57,

Thanks for taking the time to write in. "Plausible deniability" I believe is the term you are looking for. :) It is an interesting concept. I'll pass the thoughts along to our development team.
