does the person I'm sharing passwords with also needs the 1password program? If so, is there any way to share logins/passwords without them getting it?

    Hi @fancyhands,

Thanks for writing us with your question! The answer really depends on how you're sharing passwords:

If you have a local vault that you're sharing with someone else via Dropbox, then yes, that person will need to have the 1Password app in order to add/view/use that shared vault.

Similarly, if you send someone else an individual item (for example, by going to Item > Share > AirDrop in the main 1Password app on your Mac), that person will need to have the 1Password app in order to accept and see that item.

On the other hand, if you have a 1Password for Teams or 1Password Families subscription, and the person you want to share passwords with is a member of that same Team/Family, they can sign into their account from any web browser to access their 1Password data (including any vaults you've shared with them).

If the person you want to share passwords with doesn't use 1Password at all, the only way to share your data with them would be through some sort of insecure means, such as printing it on paper or typing it in plain text in an email. (But we don't recommend that, of course.)

If you have more questions or need anything else, we're here for you! :)
