I purchased Mac 1Password from Apple AppStore in 2013. Do I have an account at AgileBits?

Curious as to whether I have an account there since I purchased 1Password through Apple App Store. I continue to receive all updates through the App Store.

1Password Version: 6.2
Extension Version: 4.5.5
OS Version: OSX 10.11.4
Sync Type: iCloud

    Hi @BRho,

Thanks for reaching out to us with your question!

When you say "account", are you referring to a 1Password for Teams or 1Password Families account? If so, then no, you wouldn't have a Teams/Families account unless you specifically signed up for one in the past several months (they're part of a new service we recently introduced).

A Teams/Families subscription includes the ability to use the 1Password apps on all supported platforms at no additional charge (and future upgrades to those apps are free). Purchasing the standalone 1Password app for a certain platform doesn't include a Teams/Families subscription (future versions might be paid upgrades, but there's no recurring subscription fee). We have more information about that on our pricing page here: Find the 1Password that's right for you

If you'd like to sign up for a Teams/Families account, you can certainly do so! If you have more questions about that, please let us know. We're always happy to help! :)

Maybe you didn't notice in the Title that I purchased 1Password in 2013 from Apple App Store. The concepts you mention Teams/Families doesn't sound familiar to me. I just use 1Password to keep track of passwords on my Mac since then. So, I assumed that I could re-download v6.2 from AgileBits using my App Store creds from 2013. I did that, and now have an account at AgileBits and will get future updates from there I think. Good pitch, man.

    Hi @BRho,

Ah, I understand what you're asking now, thank you for clarifying! :) You hadn't originally mentioned anything about switching to the AgileBits Store version of 1Password for Mac. I wasn't trying to "pitch" anything - you asked about a 1Password account, and therefore I gave you information about how our Teams/Families accounts work. As it turns out, you had a question about your 1Password license. That's different from an account, and I'm sorry for the confusion there. I'll be happy to clear that up and answer your question.

Maybe you didn't notice in the Title that I purchased 1Password in 2013 from Apple App Store.

Actually, I did notice that, but you asked if that purchase gave you an account: it doesn't. It gives you a license for the Mac App Store version of 1Password for Mac. That license allows you to install & use the app on all of your Macs. But it doesn't give you an 'account' with us - in other words, you aren't using a 1Password service, you're using a 1Password app. Your data isn't stored on our servers, and is only stored locally on your Mac unless you choose to copy it elsewhere (for example, by syncing it via Dropbox or iCloud). And since your purchase was through Apple, we don't even have information about your purchase in our system.

The concepts you mention Teams/Families doesn't sound familiar to me. I just use 1Password to keep track of passwords on my Mac since then.

Again, I'm sorry for the confusion. You asked about an 'account', and the only types of accounts we offer are Teams/Families accounts. Since your question was really about your license, my answer about our accounts doesn't apply, so you can ignore that. :)

So, I assumed that I could re-download v6.2 from AgileBits using my App Store creds from 2013.

Yes, that's correct: If you download the AgileBits Store version of 1Password from our download site and it detects that the Mac App Store version of 1Password is (or was previously) installed on that Mac, it will automatically activate itself and won't require a separate license to be added. In case you're curious, we explain more about how that works here: How to switch to the version of 1Password from the AgileBits website

I did that, and now have an account at AgileBits...

Just to be clear, you don't have an account with us - the only accounts we have are Teams/Families accounts, and you haven't signed up for one of those. And technically you don't have a license for the AgileBits Store version of 1Password for Mac, either (the AgileBits Store version of 1Password you downloaded is just detecting your license for the Mac App Store version).

I know it probably sounds like semantics, and the difference between a license and an account isn't something you'll normally need to worry about, but I thought I should explain why I misunderstood your original question. It sounds like you should be all set now, but if you ever have more questions or need help, please don't hesitate to let us know. We're here for you! :)
