I cannot get my iPhone 5s (iOS 9.3.1) to sync with DropBox.

I have verified that the vault my phone is using the one that exists on DropBox. I have been using 1Password exclusively on my phone for years. When I look at the data in Dropbox however, it appears to be about 4 years old so I'm not sure that it is snyching back there now. I just open 1Password on my Mac (for the first time) and pointed it to the same vault on Dropbox. The Mac version does not see any items there.

1Password Version: 5.0.2
Extension Version: 4.55.90 (chrome) , 4.5.5 (safari)
OS Version: OS X El Capitan 10.11.2
Sync Type: Dropbox

    Hi @chris_finley,

    welcome to the 1Password forum!

Could you please check on your iPhone that syncing is indeed enabled and working? Also which version of 1Password are you using on your iPhone?

The version on my iPhone is 6.3.1. I go to settings and click through the syncing steps to the choose a vault option. I get the "downloading..." message. When I navigate back to the 1Password settings screen, the Syncing icon just spins but never completes. Yesterday I left it for about 30 minutes and it never completed. I've attached a couple of screenshots to show you what I see when I go into Dropbox from my Mac. It appears that something is updating the timestamps on the the files but no data is being pushed to them.

I'm guessing this means that all my 1Password data resides on my iPhone? If that is the case could I just wipe out the Dropbox files and try to create a new vault from my phone?

    Hi @chris_finley,

Thanks for getting back to us with those details! I agree, resetting sync might be the quickest way to get things resolved here:

    • Disable sync on your iOS device.
    • Open Dropbox and remove the 1Password.agilekeychain there.
    • Give Dropbox time to fully sync.
    • Enable Dropbox sync on your iOS device. Keep in mind that, depending on the size of your database, and the speed of your internet, that initial sync might take some time.
    • Once Dropbox is fully synced, you can enable sync on your Mac.

Please let me know how this works!

    Megan,
On iOS I can't find an option do disable sync.

    Hi @chris_finley,

My apologies! To disable sync in 1Password for iOS, please go to Settings > Sync > ‘vault name’ > Sync Service. At the bottom of the screen there will be a ‘Disable Sync’ option.

    I hope this helps!

1Password on my iPhone doesn't have that option. I click Settings, then Sync. It says Primary Set Up Syncing. I click that and go to the Primary Vault screen. The option there is Start Syncing. I click that and have the choice to Choose a Sync Method. I choose Sync with Dropbox, and select my account on the next screen. It then asks me to Choose a Vault, and I choose 1Password/1Password.agilekeychain. It displays a message saying "download encryption keys..." and returns me to the Primary Vault screen. I don't have any option to disable the Sync.

  • Hi @chris_finley,

In that case Dropbox syncing has already been disabled, and you can proceed with the rest of the steps Megan outlined.

    Thanks!

    Ben

I was able to remove the 1Password data from Dropbox. After that I could sync on my iPhone back to dropbox (whee!). I didn't have any data in 1Password for Mac. I followed the steps in this article to backup the data from my phone and restore it on my Mac. I had to choose a Dropbox folder under Sync preferences. I choose the Apps folder created by iOS and it created a NEW 1Password.agilekeychain file for the Mac. Will the two devices now stay in sync on their own or will I have to intervene?

Just to clarify my last post, it does appear that iOS and Mac are looking at 2 different vaults. The iOS vault is pointing to \apps\1password\1Password.opvault. The Mac vault is pointing to \apps\1password.agilekeychain. Since I have restored the iOS backup on my Mac, I have all the iOS data on the Mac now. Would I now remove all the data from iOS and then point it to the \apps\1password.agilekeychain vault that the Mac is using?

You're right, they should point to the same file. To best help you troubleshoot this I'd like to ask you to create some Diagnostics Reports, one from each of your devices:

Attach the Diagnostics Report(s) to an email message addressed to support+forum@agilebits.com.

Please do not post your Diagnostics Report(s) in the forums, but please do include a link to this thread in your email, along with your forum handle so that we can "connect the dots" when we see your Diagnostics Report(s) in our inbox.

You should receive an automated reply from our BitBot assistant with a Support ID number. Please post that number here so we can track down the report(s) and ensure that this issue is dealt with quickly. :)

Once we see the report we should be able to better assist you. Thanks very much!

    Ben
