How to sign in to different vault with different master password.

My father has been stuck between a rock and a hard place with his iOS device. He updated it and got locked out of it. Now he needs his apple ID and password to sign back in, unfortunately this information is only stored in his 1Password vault. He doesn't have another iOS device to sign in to, and vaults haven't been shared with family members. The one saving grace is that we do have his 1Password Master-password. I was hoping it would be as easy as signing in to 1Password on someone else device in the family to access his information, but I see no way to log out of my 1Password vault so that I can log in to his. Further, i'm afraid we might need his iCloud account information to access his vault anyway since it was synced through iCloud.

Is there anyway to access his vault? We have the master-password!

    Hi @Veratom,

I’m so sorry to hear that you’re having trouble with 1Password. That’s certainly a frustrating situation.

Here’s where we’re at. In order to access that vault on another device, that device would need to have access to your father’s iCloud account (because that’s where the sync copy of his data is stored). Basically, if that data hasn’t been synced to another device already, we’re going to need to get into iCloud to get it.

It’s not the end of the world, it just means that your father’s iCloud password will need to be reset. On the iCloud sign in page you can select the ‘Forgot Apple ID or password’ and go through the recovery process. Once that is done, he’ll be able to get back into his device, and into his 1Password data. When choosing a new password, I highly recommend using the ‘Words’ option in the 1Password password generator. These are much easier to type than the random character strings that 1Password also generates, and they can be memorized - I keep my iCloud password memorized because Apple has an annoying habit of asking for it at moments when I can’t pop into 1Password to copy it.

I hope this helps get your father set up!

I also wanted to mention something that might help prevent this sort of stress in the future. Have you heard of 1Password Families? Our new subscription service makes it easy to keep your whole family secure. 1Password Families includes a web interface, so your family can have easy access to their database, even if they don’t have their devices with them. Additionally, we’ve built some great recovery features into Families so that you can retrieve account data even if that Master Password is forgotten. :)

Alright, thanks Megan I appreciate the help! I'll have to look into the 1Password for families.
