Two users on mac
I intend to purchase 1password (single license version). But first I'm using the trial version to be sure I can set it up for my purposes. My wife and I are individual users on the same mac. I wish to set up one password in such a way that we either share the same vault while using each other's account on the mac, or separate vaults for each of us which we would use separately. From reading other posts, it appears the best way is to set up a vault on my user and she sets up another vault for her user account, each with its own master password. Do I understand this correctly? Thanks for your help as I'm looking forward to getting this going. Also, we do not wish to store the data in a cloud. I plan to use local wi-fi.

Hi @jfisher2600,
It's entirely a preference thing. Some couples prefer to have their own separate vaults, some don't and 1Password will cater to both scenarios.
Now 1Password does store data locally so if you prefer to each have a separate vault then all you need to do is each set up 1Password in your own OS X user accounts. Neither copy will be able to see the data in the other account and the two instances of 1Password will behave completely independently of each other. If you each want to sync your own vault to your own iOS devices you can both (separately) use Wi-Fi Sync to do so. Please note though that for Wi-Fi Sync to work both 1Password on your Mac and iOS device have to be unlocked at the same time.
You can however both sync to the same OPVault so that you're sharing a single vault between you. You would both share the same Master Password and changes to it by one would be reflected in the other person's copy. In this instance if one of you happened to be logged in more often than the other you could sync all iOS devices to that copy of 1Password, still using Wi-Fi Sync but equally you could also keep the iOS devices syncing to their own copy. Now this approach, where you locally maintain a copy of an OPVault for syncing purposes does require a bit of work as OS X doesn't have a nice place you can both read and write to out of the box. It has something that is close but it needs tweaked.
So both scenarios are possible, it really is a preference and we can help you with whichever one you prefer

Thanks for such a detailed response. We would like the first option as a preference; a seperate vault for each user where we operate independantly. And we'll share each other's passwords in event of an emergency. Also it appears you might be suggesting this method may be cleaner on OS X anyway. With that in mind, is the process simply to add a vault to each user, set up the respective preferences? Then download the IOS app on each phone (and iPad) and set up the syncing?

Greetings @jfisher2600,
You're pretty much spot on. The first time you each launch 1Password it will ask if you want to create a new vault or have existing data. After you've each gone through the setup process you'll each have a vault only stored in that OS X user account. There will be no connection between them and each will use the Master Password that you each choose. We have a page on Wi-Fi Sync that should help. What you can do is when you're setting up 1Password for iOS you will say you have existing data and then choose Wi-Fi Sync and this will allow you to both populate 1Password for iOS on your own devices with your own vaults. You will both need to follow all the steps as each copy of 1Password is completely separate and you'll end up with different Wi-Fi secrets, an additional way in which your iOS devices can't get confused and accidentally sync with the wrong copy of 1Password for Mac. Basically at the end you will each have your own isolated 1Password environment which doesn't care that you're both using a single Mac.
If you have any questions at all please ask away

Thanks much. I'm well on my way and will be sure to contact you with any questions. So far I've set up both users, have synced to IOS devices. Just playing with it to get the feel. I think both of us are liking it very much. I also want to comment on the excellent support from this you, this forum, the manuals for both the mac and IOS which I've downloaded to Ibooks, etc. The manuals are very well written and I sense you can't go wrong. I'm sure we'll be transitioning from the free trial to a purchased license. I don't see any turning back from here.

Greetings @jfisher2600,
I'm really happy to hear that you're finding 1Password fits well for you and I'm also happy to hear you're making good use of the trial before committing, I wish more people did this given that is its purpose. If you have any questions please do ask
