icloud Drive Support

Please add iCloud Drive as a sync option for syncing between iOS and Windows. Now I have to have a Dropbox account just for 1Password or manually sync via WiFi. If I lose my iPad and my manually synced passwords are not up to date, I have to buy another Apple device just to get access to them. This situation is so rotten. 1Passwords has to be one of the last programs that still solely use this old iCloud from years ago.

Please support iCloud Drive!

    Hi @chchfhia,

Thanks for taking the time to write in. For syncing with iCloud we use Apple's CloudKit API, which was released at the same time as iCloud Drive (and in fact iCloud Drive must be enabled for it to work). The difference between CloudKit and iCloud Drive is that iCloud Drive is designed to work with files, whereas CloudKit is designed to work with databases. As such CloudKit is much more suitable for handling the type of data we're using it for. Apple has not yet provided a way to access CloudKit data on Windows however. As such Dropbox is likely going to be the best solution for the moment.

    Sorry for the inconvenience!

I inadvertently turned off iCloud drive on both my Mac and iPhone, thinking nothing needed it.

I forgot about 1Password. Unfortunately, 1Password simply appears to sync but does nothing. It should give an error if iCloud sync is enabled and iCloud Drive is off.

I found the answer by looking at the documentation, but an error message would have let me fix it instantly.

  • Thanks for the feedback, @Auricchio. I'm not sure what information (if any) the system gives us when you do something like disable iCloud Drive. I'll certainly pass the feedback to our developers for their consideration though. :)
