System Preferences on my Macbook Air stopped working yesterday. I am trying to figure it out. I don't know if it is related to the new 1Password update or not. I am looking at all possible causes. Any thoughts on the best way to delete 1Password temporarily? Have you had any feedback on this problem from other 1Password users? Thanks for any help!!! It might not be 1Password at all, but I am exploring everything.

I can't see why 1PW should have anything to do with this issue.
But if you want to try deleting it, just trash the 1PW application and empty the trash, and restart the computer (you should, of course, have restarted the computer as a matter of routine for weird situations like yours).
As long as you haven't used an app cleaner but just trashed 1PW its data will still be safe. If you absolutely wanted to, you could backup or sync the data and then delete it from the startup drive and still be able to recover it.

Hello @rofrith,
I would have to agree with danco here, I can't imagine how we would be the cause of anything related to the System Preferences application. Like many OS X applications we don't install files in various locations and instead our application is a self-contained bundle. Installation and removal is as simple as moving the application bundle from the
/Applications/
folder. To fully quit 1Password so nothing is running the follow these steps - Open the main 1Password window.
- Use the keyboard shortcut
⌃⌘Q
to quit both 1Password and 1Password mini.
You will need to open the 1Password application again to get 1Password mini running for when you want to use it with your browser.
If you're having issues with System Preferences it might be worth opening up the Console application and seeing what errors pop up in the log when you try to open it. I suspect it might be a third party prefPane if I had to guess. With a little luck the Console might offer some clues.

As I have worked with this today, I don't believe 1Password has anything to do with my problem. I was just trying to figure it out but I am no expert. Thanks for responding!!!

Hello @rofrith,
I hope you find the cause  Did the console log offer any potential leads?

Hello littlebobbytables,
The console log is a little overwhelming. However, because I am persistent, I was able to get System Preferences to work. But, when I open the Network pane, the cause of my problem to begin with, System Prefs freezes all over again. I guess I just shouldn't open Network under System Prefs!! Someone in the Apple support community suggested reinstalling my router all over again. I think I will do that next. Sorry, I didn't mean to accuse 1Password unfairly!

Don't worry @rofrith, when things go belly up it's completely rational to look for the cause anywhere you have to  It's good to know you've narrowed it down to the Network pane but that's surprising, I didn't think anything in there isn't handled completely by the system. I hope you manage to restore order.

Good News, I found the solution while reading in the Apple support communities forum. It was a corrupt file. I don't know how files sometimes get corrupt; you probably know better than I do. Glad I didn't follow some suggestions, like reinstalling the OS!!! Don't know why I ever thought it could be 1Password or any other great software.
